I was just wondering if it would be cost effective to swap out my 4. 10s to 3. 73s for better fuel economy? Any idea as to how much an improvment it would make? I do some pulling but not on a daily basis. I have an 03, 2500, 4X4, manual, long bed, all stock. Thanks for your help.

Daniel - I also have the 4. 10s I opted to run larger tires instead of changing ratios. I am currently running 285/75R16s (about 33" tires) my next set will be 315/75R16s (about 35" tires).

With the 4. 10s you can turn the bigger tires and run lower rpms (at the same given speed with small tires) saving fuel.

I am 99% sure that to change gear ratios you have to do front and rear on the 4x4 so it would be an expensive venture.

I would leave them. You have both axles to swap and it would take a long time to make up the 1 (guess) mpg increase. I would increase the size of tires when the time comes to lower rpms + LOOKS good.

I have the 3. 73 and was wanting the 4. 10's and the price is about 1000 per axle at the dealer. It would be better to find someone with the 3. 73 and swap out everything from one truck to the other
