Very sweet 12v/NV4500/NP205 '80 Chevy 4x4 cc dually

I'm interested in learning more about the 4 Cylinder Cummins. Specificly the Common Rail Version.

I have a '98 Durango that I think would retrofit nicely to a 4B CR Cummins. I won't put a mecahnical injection Cummis in the Durango, it just is not fitting. maybe for apickup, but the Durango with a little Cummins would make a great travel vehicle. If I can't find any info about the conversion process or CR motor, then I'll just send the 'ol wagon down the road.

Thanks for any info. Any Link, or even just a poke of information would be awesome.

If it has a rear gear train it's a 4. 5 liter. We have bunch in Case backhoes and dozers at work. All have a new style VE in them, no CR engines. I haven't seen a 4bt CR yet.

All the 6 cylinder 6. 7's come with the CR fuel system though.

I wasnt aware that there was a CR version, but I dont see why there wouldnt be... Ive thought about getting a little Dakota and puttin a 4bt in it... Id prefer a CR one if there is one

Saw a bunch of new 4 bt's at the Cummins place here a few weeks back, all P pumps. Merrick, what about the lil' CR diesel they put in the Jeeps?

I recently read about Brazil(I think?) sells new Ford F-250s with optional 4BTs.

I'm sure these would be CRs.

I would love to see one up close.

Has anyone seen one in the States?

I just checked out the Ford Brazil website and it does have a picture of a 4bt Im assuming. I cant read spanish or portugese or whatever they talk down there, so all I can go on is the pics

I started this reply last night...

Merrick, what about the lil' CR diesel they put in the Jeeps?

Wow, now that'd be a good idea. I hadn't thought about that. It might even look 50/50 factory...

I could wait a little bit and see what's going on with the Cherokee Diesel option...

Update:

I was checking out the Durango, and ten years in Ohio have put a toll on all the metal. Everything is rusted. I don't consider the vehicle unsafe, but it is definatly not a candidate for a motor swap so I'm gonna send this one on down the road...

Thanks for all the help. I'm learning a bunch.

Merrick

Merrick, I hope to do the 4bt swap with a inline pump.

Just wish I could come up with a adapter for the 44re to the cummins.

I'm not sure there is enough room for the 47re and front driveshaft.

Fox, I'll see if I can get some underbody pictures for you when I swing by the muffler shop again... I think you MIGHT be able to fit 4wd 727 trans down there... I think some pics and measurements would do wonders.

Merrick

Sorry, yah that's what I meant. THere's so many variations of that trans. 46RH, 47RH, 47RE, 48RE. Kinda crazy. All almost the same thing. Atleast as far as conversion measurements go.

Merrick

what about the b 3. 3? it is avalible in common rail and inline pump mechanical. . the CR one goes as high as 110hp from factory iirc, but some tweeking could get that higher i suppose. . i'd really like a b3. 3 in a rubicon jeep. . that'd be fun

i know of a 3. 3 l that runs a conveyor / rotary stacker. . i would not want it for a motor vehicle that needed any nuts. . its about the same sixe as a vw 1. 9 tdi... 100 hp isn't much to push stuff around. . the 3. 9 b series can use all the parts performanve wise as a 6b. . ie you could get 300 hp out of it pretty easy. . there is nothing for a 3. 3 l?. . and then your stuck with a sae bell housing only for the 3. 3. . etcetcetc...

i'd stick with a 3. 9 b series if you want a 4cyl. .

later deo

Yah Matt, I saw that!

I looked at the pics very carefully, then went out and looked at my D. My skills for fabricating are definatly not that high, although my girl and I do want to improve our skills... I'm thinking of starting off with something a little different/easier.

I appreciate all the help guys, I'll be back in here soon enough ;)

Merrick

OK - good - I'm glad yo had a chance to see those pics.

Drop me an email - I'd like to stay in touch regarding your future plans... we could compare notes and so forth even if the projects are a bit different. I might be able to start turning wrenches on mine once again by the end of this month.

Beers,

Matt
