I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has put an aeroturbine and 4" exhaust system on a 1999 ISB that is not bombed - stock 235HP manual.

Any info on noise, MPG, & performance would be useful.

To clarify my original post:

I do not want to increase noise level. It has been suggested that I put the aeroturbine as far forward as possible then go into a straight through 4" muffler.

There has been a lot of discussion on the TDR about noise drone, insufficient back pressure, and even one individual who reported a loss of boost and power with a 4" system.

So I would like to receive some input who has experience with the installation I am considering on a similar truck with no cperformance modifications other than a TAG.

Thanks.

why are you set on the aeroturbine?

I ran a dynomax bullet as far forward as possible and then a straight through muffler back near the tailpipe... it was VERY quiet inside the truck. and far too quiet outside for my taste...

the aeroturbine is just snake oil IMHO... looks nifty, but it's WAY overpriced for what it actually DOES.

honestly, I don't think you're really going to gain very much at stock power levels with a 4" system. if you want good/affordable performance with a nice quiet sound, I would retain the stock exhaust system, keep the stock resonator, and use a straight-through aftermarket muffler to replace the stock muffler.

Look at Rip Rook's Diamond Eye setup, but get the 40" Donaldson muffer.

I disagree on the stock exhaust. In a completely stock truck I noticed a good diferrence in spool up and a little more boost. It also lowered the EGTs nicely.

If you really look at the stock down pipe, you will see where the biggest gain is in the larger system, having a mandrel bent exhaust is the key. The stock stuff is pretty crimped up, especially on the down pipe and the front of the system.

I have the normal diamond eye system and I put the muffler forward as far as I could. I have no drone at any rpm. But it is louder then stock, no doubt. I think the donaldson would have toned it down a nice amount, and might be what you are after.

I installed a AeroTurbine muffler 18" in front of the Hog performance muffler that came in the 4" system. I to did not want more noise, but rather less. My main concern was the drone at 2000-2100 rpm. It did help in that area, and also changed the sound. The system is quieter, but has a weird thruster sound to it, most notable by others that pass by the tail pipe, many have said it sounds like a huge air leak.

Aero Turbine?

I was wondering exactly what is so different about the Aero Turbine mufflers, but when I check the website nothing works except the home page. My two cents worth, just installed a maganaflow system, its fairly quiet, my power and mileage have gone up (don't have a pyrometer or boost gauge yet so can't answer that), no drone, and the price wasn't bad.

The AeroTurbine muffler is very unique, most diesel mufflers are simply a straight thru design with vents punched in the core. The Aero works on the same principle as an airplane wing. As the hot gasses enter the Aero they are split into two groups, one runs Thru the muffler, down the center. The other is directed over the center of the muffler Thru a chamber that separates the center from the mufflers outside. This separator has a curved surface like the wing and speeds up the gases as they flow over it. The two meet at the end of the muffler right before they exit . The mixing of the gases at different velocities cancels most of the sound waves, and promotes better savaging by creating a low pressure area thru the center of the muffler. Comparing it to a standard run of the mill muffler is like saying all trucks are the same. I am not trying to sell one, Just letting you know they are very different. Yes they are expensive, about 200. 00 , but what isn't expensive now days? It is also very well built and comes in Stainless Steel, so for me along with the rest of my Stainless Steel system, it will be the last and only exhaust system I ever buy, somehow it doesn't seem that expensive any more.

I wanted to try the Aero muffler to reduce noise levels and decrease the drone I have at 2000-2100. It did what I wanted, now I can hear the radio or carry on a conversation while driving the truck. Also the drone was mostly eliminated. You guy's can have all the straight pipe and 4-5" systems you want. I think Dodge did a good job with the stock exhaust system as it is, and would tell anyone that ask, to think long and hard before they modify or change from the stock system. If you are a loner and drive your truck by yourself, maybe? But it you have a life and like talking about it with others ,most systems are annoying.

so if you were to put like ten Aeroturbines inline would it create a vacuum behind the turbine wheel so powerful that it would yield 10-15psi of boost at idle?!

an airplane wing causes lift... it does not create thrust...

the Aeroturbine causes part of the exhaust gas to slow down... it does not cause any exhaust gas to speed up beyond the speed that it entered... all it does is cause the gas that was slowed down to speed back up.

a $30-50 muffler would have reduced noise levels and drone just as good or better than a $200 Aeroturbine IMHO.

Finally got the Aero Turbine site to work and checked it out. I have to agree with Forrest on this one, placing an airfoil in the path of the exhaust flow will slow things down, not speed them up, it's called friction. I'm not out to start a fight, but their claims don't seem to go with the laws of physics, it may work but not in the manner they explain. Seems like a well made product, though, and if it works, enjoy it. I still like my Magnaflow, which is very civilized and quiet, you have to really be getting on it and have the windows down, and be passing a wall or some other obstruction to bounce the sound back before you notice a difference in the cab. Plus my brother owns a speed shop here in town, if I told you how much I paid for mine I'd have to kill you, and I don't feel like hauling your body off to bury it somewhere in the boonies, so don't ask!:D;)
