Brakes worn at 37k miles?

Straight pipe?

I recently installed a BHAF and replaced the muffler and res. with straight pipe in an attempt to lower my egt while towing. The result was less than 50 degrees lost!!! Has anyone with a setup close to mine installed 4'' exhaust and if so how much did your egt go down while towing med/hvy loads. While towing 7-8k if I let it, I could easily peg my 1500 degree guage on any small hill. Thanks for any replies!!

4"exhaust

I think I bombed mine in reverse order as yours. 4" exhaust was one of my very first mods. Did it even before my gages,so I've got no baseline from stock. But I think 4" ex. will definately help you. I've got "bullydog" on mine(turbo back). Installed a Jardine on guys 96 a few weeks ago. I think the Jardine fits a little better and I liked their muffler more(Magna-flow I think). I just got rid of my k&n and stock air box for a b. h. a. f. . Haven't had a chance to pull heavy yet but empty on a pretty good hill I've noticed a good drop in e. g. t. s(100 degrees or better). How do you like your dd2s. My next mod will probably be injectors. Still debating between dd1s or dd2s. I pull heavy uphills too. Doug

get the 2's !!

My dd2's added alot of power especially in the upper rpm range. I had an ez and dd1's on my old 5sp truck and had plenty of power with no egt issues. Since you already have the big exhaust the 2's would problably work great for you. I have unhooked the dataport on my ez and used it just as a boost module and the 2's seem to add a tad less hp than the ez did alone but with little added heat. My next upgrade will be 4" so I can hook the ez back up. Or maybe it will be a fuel pressure guage kit or maybe an exhaust brake or maybe a new clutch or a bigger turbo..... anybody have a spare credit card i could borrow ?

similar except dd3's

boost, i have a very similar set up, except i have dd3's, When i put my 4" jardine on, i might have seen 100 degree's drop in egt. that was going from completely stock exhaust to the 4". i never tried straight pipe. I say might have seen 100 degrees, because the peak numbers (i have spa gauges) are about that much lower, but since i have put the jardine on, it is also cooling off around here. i am interested in something, because my egt's dont seem to get as hot as yours. What rpms are you running at when they shoot up. i have found with my eth, that i need to keep the rpms above about 17-1800 when towing hard up a hill. lower than that and the temps start to climb. funny thing is these eth with the ez and injectors have such a flat powerband, it seems to pull just as hard higher in the rpm's as it does way down low. What elevation are you at, because i will admit my truck is kind of a pig at high elevations, and the temps started to go up alot more than normal. i live at sea level and all is good. driving at 7500 feet a few weeks ago, and i had a lot more smoke, and at least 200 degrees hotter on the pyro, and that was empty but running very hard :)

I live at about 4200 ft so most of my pulling is above that. After messing around with it today I did notice lower temps when empty about 100-150 but very little diff when towing. I try to keep rpm above 2k when towing. These dd2's do make a huge difference in power across the rpm scale but even more so above 2500. After talking to several shops one suggested running a 4" downpipe then splitting that into two 3" tailpipes. Sounds interesting. But dont know how that would compare to just one 4".

Read my sig fr my toys.

I tow a 10k lb 5er. Up here in New England, Max I've seen up hill was 1300 (short spike) going up a long failry steep grade @ 70mph. Fairly flat roads around 800.

boost module

Will the boost module work with my EDGE. I just priced the dd2s and the boost module ,Wow. Oh well still cheaper than a P. S. D. Probably have to wait till income tax time:( . Doug

Your power edge already has a boost module built in. You should have received a boost elbow with the PE.

cool

So I can just slap my dd2s in and not worry about the $400 boost module. Looks like christmas is coming early this year;) :D :D !And yeah I got the boost elbow and installed it. Doug

Yes!! The Power Edge already has the boost module and the elbow allows the wastegate to stay shut. Your ready for 2's!!

BOOST:

I have a set-up similar to yours and recently traveled to Dubois, Wy and had the complete 4" exhaust installed by Jardine. I immediately noticed a difference. I have my pyrometer in downpipe and I have not seen 900 degrees yet. Just came back from Minot ND towing 11,000 lb 5er into our famous Big Sky wind and it still never got beyond 900 degrees. I feel the 4" exhaust is definitely a worthwhile addition and hope it works for you. When they removed the OEM exhaust systen I noticed that the down pipe was really brown from heat. The new 4" systen still looks like it did when installed. The Jardines really do a beautiful job, no clamps, all welded and only takes them about l hour to do the complete job. They only charged $40. 00 for the removal and installation of the new system.

Thanks for your reply!! I will have to get a 4" system. I've been looking for the best price. I've heard about a company in Butte that manufactors a system but they won't sell to an individual, only a dealer. Have not found a dealer that handles there product yet. BTY what did the Jardine System cost?
