Does anyone out there use the Jannetty Racing 4"???? I like the fact that it is 14 gauge instead of 16 like most others. According to the Machinery Handbook there is almost . 010-. 011 difference in wall thickness. That should account for a lot longer lifespan. If you are using it, why did you spend the extra money? And what have you noticed different (better/worse) compared to otheer exhausts? Thanks for puting up with my ever present juvenile questions!

Heyyyyyy!

Ain't no juvenile (or stupid) questions. I run the Jardine four inch, cost me $420. 00. Totally staisfied. Mileage is up about 1. 2 MPG and a small difference in low end power. Quality is first class, fit was simple.

Cool, now were getting into materials analysis. Aluminized steel will last a long, long time. The thicker wall won’t necessarily make the system last longer, it will change the resonance. Then again, there is stainless steel. :D

I would not spend the extra $$'s for stainless on a diesel. Unless you like the looks of polished stainless and have the time to keep it up! Gassers put out much nastier chemicals and need the stainless, but the aluminized will last a very long time on the diesels.

While we are on the subject...

any thoughts on Bully Dog 4-inch? It costs about the same as the Jardine mentioned earlier. Quality? Sound? Ease of install? One better than the other?

Thanks for any comments...

There are alot of systems out there and many have tried and have been very happy with Rip's Allied system

It's worth checking out.

search the archive for mor info or shoot me a PM

JRE 4"

I have the JRE 4" and am very pleased, in my opinion it was worth the extra money. Easy install, faster spool up, mo power, cooler egt, sounds awesome, good people to deal with, excellent quality. Way back there was a poll on 4" exhaust, if I remember correctly the 2 major brands were JRE and Jardine. Do a search and you should find it alot of good input... ..... Good luck. :D

JRE

I agree with MedicCummin.

I have the JRE. I liked the customer service and the product! The best part is the awesome sound. Not loud but definately better than stock. Plus, you can hear the turbo spool up at the exhaust! :D

I would buy the JRE again.

I have a Jardine that I bought from Schied Diesel. I had a problem with the last hanger toward the rear. After a trip to Schied, I picked up the right one. I have a little finessing to do to make it work, though. Take your time and measure everything and test fit.

I think any of the systems will work well.

Eric

p. s. Rip's system was out of the question as it would have cost me an arm and a leg to ship it. Probably would have been the same deal with the JRE. Drove to Schied's to pick mine up :D

the exhaust of course

It is weird replying to my own post but, thanks to all who answere you guys are a stand out bunch, you are welcome at my place any time, long as we are listening to the sweet music a 5. 9 cummins makes. Much better than the nut and bolt sound of a PowerJoke. :D Most importantly I would like to thank Ed and Mediccummin for their replys were exactly what I wanted. To RadDodge I dissagree with your theory that the 14 gauge won't last any longer, I. E. that . 010 that I mentioned is the difference in wall thickness, so that . 010 applys for the total surface area of the exhaust. Which I know you've got a big dually like myself and I'm sure you also know the exhaust is dang long. I don't know how to present it mathematically but I'm sure it is quite a bit more material. And to the others I don't beleive I mentioned stainless. Want stainless, can't afford stainless. Anywho I do appreciate all of you and you taking the time to answere me. As always God gave us Cummins USE IT-ABUSE IT but most importantly enjoy the HE double toothpick out of it. ;)

i guess i am wondering cuz i got a 2001 with 125hp injectors and gonna get the Edge Comp and was wondering if i should go with the bigger exhaust runnin that kinda ponies?

I put the Bully dog on my 02 quad cab. Install was easy and straight forward once the OEM system is out of the way. I just had to trim about 6-8" off one of the sections of straight pipe for it to fit my quad cab long bed truck (guess they want to be sure even the longest wheel based trucks will not come up "short-piped"). Bully Dog uses 14 gauge tubing and I'm happy with the fit/finish and the looks of the tailpipe exit (looks pretty darn close to the OEM) . No clearance problems with the down pipe. My only grip is the hangers. I'm not very impressed with the hanger system Bully Dog provides (the tubing, bends, and fit is all top notch, but then they skimped on the hanger sytem). I think the OEM hanger rod may be thicker and the OEM rods have a nipple on the end so they won't easily slip out of the rubber boot (although the Bully Dog hangers don't slip out of the rubber boots either). On the install I strayed from Bully Dogs instructions and installed the muffler after the first section of straight pipe like may have done to avoid potential drone. I noticed the Bully Dog hangers don't exactly line up with the rubber boots like the OEM hangers, but this may be because I strayed from the way Bully Dog intended the install. I have kept my OEM exhaust and plan on having the OEM hangers refabed to replace the Bully Dog hangers. One thing I do not care for is the Bully Dog hanger set-up for the tail pipe. The OEM tailpipe had 2 hangers welded to the tubing. The Bully dog system only has 1 hanger which is incorporated into the exhaust clamp to secure the tip to the tailpipe. Overall I think Bully Dog could have supplied a better Hanger system (I notice the Banks system has 2 hangers welded on the tailpipe section to match the OEM exhaust). The Bully Dog muffler is a straight-thru design with a bunch of little "cusps" on the inside. It sounds pretty good, lots turbo music out the tailpipe at idle and it is definetly louded than stock, but not objectable IMO. I originally installed the muffler so the "cusps" where facing back, and this essentially gave the same results of a straight piped system. I did notice a mild drone with this arrangement, so I turned the muffler around the correct way with the "cusps" facing into the exhaust flow. The drone is gone and it made the exhaust just a tad more quiet. Also with the muffler positioned correctly it quieted an annoying "WHOOSHing" sound from the tailpipe when letting off the go pedal to shift. The "WHOOSH" is still there but it's only noticable when shifting under hard acceleration. Cruising at highway speeds things are pretty quite unless you "load" the engine up a bit like pulling a hill, then you get a nice sond. When passing cars or semi's you can hear the nice exhaust note reflecting off the vehicle you are passing. Other than that I would say the "noise" level is pretty close to the stock exhaust at highway speeds. City driving is another story, just good 'ol Cummins and turbo music for all the enjoy!!! With the Bully Dog exhaust, Mega Cannon, no silencer ring and the turbo spooled you can turn a few heads when poking thru parking lots, etc... Oh the perils of driving a Cummins :) I'll occasionaly let the truck idle while fueling up if there is a PSD or Duramax also fueling. I think by the time they are done fueling and listening to the nice Cummins turbo diesel music, they drive away with diesel envy!

As far as sound comparison of the Bully Dog system goes, I'm not much help cause I have nothing to compare to. I occasionally hear other trucks driving by my house with a nice sound, but I have no idea what kind of exhaust set-up they are running. Many rave about Rip's Allied muffler and I'd like to try an Allied muffler "for sound", but Rip said the muffler runs around $90 plus shipping if memory serves correct. I decided against it, seemed like a lot of money to spend on something I may or may not like the sound of better than Bully Dog's muffler. Maybe if I could hear an Allied muffler first before I have to buy, I might change my mind.

Hope you find some helpful info from this. PM me if you have any more questions.

4" system

good luck on your 4" system. but a few things that you want look for, is as flat a pipe as you can get, one that does not have a lot of steep bends in it. air is like water, the straighter the better, the pipe should flow over the rear axel, with no steep curve up an over. it seams as one picture on here i beleive it was of rip's system, (not certain) was made simler to the stock set up with a high arch over the axel, (i'm not knocking there system just using it as an example) the muffler should not have any "cheese grader" effects inside, it should be smooth with perferated inner pipe to reduce the back pressure and give a smooth flow.

just my penny's worth.

sorry about the long post

Summit racing has a kit for 299.99.

Now that price is appealing... Anyone know anything about it? Anyone have it?

SUM-680001 Exhaust system, Turbo Back, 4" Dia, Single Tip, Dodge Pick Up Diesel 1999-2002

Wonder if you "get what you pay for?" Their website lacked details (guage, aluminized, mandrel bent, etc)

wsmalley,

the linked system is not the same one as discussed. The price shown is lower, the part number differs, and the dynomax system is a cat-back version - no downpipe.
