Do you have exhaust by this Rip fella? I spoke with him on the phone and he is selling them for 320 right now nice price

Rip 4" w/ 5" tip,

Sure do, and I love it. Aluminzed with muffler and resonator. I went with a resonator because I tow and have small children, did not want to deal with a drone or excessive noise for the kids ears.

:D

Dave:

I have the 4" with a 5" tip from Rip and I don't hear the drone. Just sounds like a diesel truck to me. And really when I let lose with the air horns. Besides, the young'uns for will get used to it. They gotta learn.

Summit Racing

I have Summit Racing's 4" w/ a 5" polished tip. It sounds great and went on easy. It was $299 plus the tip that was 30-60, not sure which, the receipt is at home and I'm at work. I'm not familiar with Rip's system but I'm very happy with Summit's

Jardine exaust

Jerry Jardine's 4" system for $300. 00 plus shipping went on my truck last month. Super nice system with the Magna flow muffler. Nice mellow sound with very little cab resonance on heavy acceleration. Top quality product.

what does 4" exhaust do for you?

Just curious, I'm new to diesels, what does "4" exhaust" do for you? Does it change the power the truck has, or just make nice noise? :)

Theresa,

Two come to mind, lower EGTs (muffler has less back pressure than stock) and faster spool-up of turbo.

Yes, in most cases, the aftermarket exhaust will be louder than stock (in my 24v, no noticeable db difference). BUT, it sure sounds great.

Lots of good systems out there... recommend getting a system that has hangers welded to exhaust pipe/muffler rather than welded to clamps.

By the way, I bought a DPP 4" 409 stainless, w/ 304 stainless tip, for $490.

Wyethia,

In some cases a 4" will give you a slight increase in HP and Torque due to the reduction in back pressure and increased flow. More important in most of our cases though, is the reduction in EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temperature). As you increase fueling on these trucks, the EGT's can clime quickly to dangerous levels, possibly causing engine damage. A free flowing exhaust can help to ease this situation.

I just (Sunday) installed a Pinnacle (Jardine) 4" on my 01. 5 3500. NO MUFF THIS TIME! Definately quicker spool up. Suprised with very little drone regardless of RPM. I will be towing my 5th wheel to Vegas on Wednesday. Should be a good test to see if the drone monster rears it's ugly head. I will probably need to do a little custom bash work to the head pipe due to being real close to the frame rail. The TRUTH NOW is that you can forget about the potential perf. enhancements and just accept the fact that they just sound sooo good this way.

I got my City Muffler 5" system for less than that 4" system! and City Muffler's 4" system is a LOT less than that one! it's the same system... same muffler, etc. Jon is a good guy, and I'm very happy w/ the fit of the system. clears the spare tire, etc. no bends tighter than 45*

in retrospect, I wish I would have gone w/ the 4" system vs. my 5" one.

Which 4" system are you referring to? Last I check City Muffler was $350 for their 4" systems and $375 for the 5". Here is a link to their site: http://www.mufflerandperformance.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Dodge

Rips was stated in this thread to be down to $320 and Jardine of Pinnacle Performance was $300.

I am sorry to jump here but the subject is perfect. I to am getting a 4" straight piped exhuast by Magna Flow. I was just wondering of any body else had one and liked it or not and if it was loud to the point that I would need hearing aids in the next couple of years. Thanks for the info
