This one?

If yes, I have one in line with a Borla racing muffler (discontinued style, and similar design). The Borla has some packing, but the FM doesn't.

I really like the sound. Probably just one step under straight pipe, but much more civil :). Not as harsh... . deep rumble at idle... no "flutter" sound like some have.

When the Borla packing burns out, I've got another FM waiting to take it's place.

yea, that is exactly what i was thinking...

2 of them in series

it says they dont do much for sound...

does the donaldson muffler quiet it down much?

i still want to hear it but the old lady wants to be able to roll her window down and still have her hearing when we get there...

IMO, this system sound won't have much appeal to anyone but a hard core Cummins owner. It's not "in your face" at all, but you know I'm around.

Don't know anything about Donaldson sound... . isn't that the big 51" muffler? Way more quiet than this and little room to stick anything else in-line.

I've got a dual 2-1/2" inlet, 3" outlet Flowmaster on one of the gas trucks and it's fairly assertive as far as sound. Also got Thorley headers on that thing. A 360 gas Dodge. Did careful measurements with a GTech Pro before and after the headers/muffler (it had a stock 318 with catalyst before, VERY restrictive looking) and the net increase in performance was astounding. In the negative sense. Sounds better, feels better, runs EXACTLY the same.

But turbodiesels are different animals and respond very well to any decrease in backpressure without exception.

i have the gas ex systems down...

but dont know what to do with this diesel

wanna hear it but still want to be able to hear

how quiet is the donaldson?

I am running a 4" Borlah with a CAT and full length exhaust on my 05 and it is about right. Very little drone at speed and a nice rumble when you are in it. Without the CAT it may be a little louder but should be acceptable. :)

if that flowmaster is true to their standard design and uses baffle plates to 'muffle', you don't want it anywhere near your truck. a turbocharged vehicle (gas or diesel) wants a continuous flow system

I have a 4 inch system with an Allied muffler... it's about 36 inches long. It is quiet with a nice light tone to it when it starts to hit about mid rpm range.

If you are after sound control, this will do the job.

My son's 94 has the Rip Rook muffler... personally I like the sound but it's just a hair on the loud side.

Hope this helps.

Jay

The FM Outlaw is not baffled. It's straight through with what they call "sound attenuation" rings. No packing. It's a pretty simple design, and something like 16-17" long.

I've go the 4"in and out Donaldson big one. Very quiet, but I've got lots of room.

Donaldson has pretty detailed tech info on their web site. Flow stats etc.

They most probably have a shorter version also for Diesel. I had straight pipe for a while and got better boost numbers and temps than the stock, but too loud. This muffler gives same boost improvement less noise.

The FM outlaw is very good choice. Nice idle sound, fairly quiet until full throttle, then they make noise. They also have the oval race series or something like that. It is a single plate muffler and shouldn't restrict. They reduce sound on diesel engines nicely.
