Does anybody have a 180hp pump with a #4 tst fuel plate and 3k gov. springs? If so, how high are your egt's ? Any drivability concerns?
 
180 with a 4 will be a tad warm with a stock turbo,with or without governor springs.

4 plate is not even one that is recommended for daily driving as I would imagine the smoke is off the charts.



As for drivability...

You probably already know gauges are a must when your dealing with heat and added fueling and more than likely you will have to moderate the fueling with your foot,unless you go to a different exhaust housing or turbo. Tune it to your liking and moderate the fueling with your foot and you should get by.
 
Tst recomends the #4 plate with the 3K govener springs on the 160,175,and180 h. p. pumps. Is there any special reason for this?
 
Probably so you can deal with the fuel and egt's. You need rpm to keep the EGT in check. I run 2500 rpm plus when letting the fuel flow and I don't let it go over 1200 degrees. The small pumps can use the aggressive plates but keep in mind that you can only stay on the throttle so long with the #4 or no plate for that matter. You can always try a #6 and then go #4 latter by trading it in. A stock trans will not survive long at all with a #4. With a #6 I made it to 65K with my auto and I was carefull. If yours is an auto trans, start there first. You can always just slide the plate till the your ready to put the power down. The #6 is pretty strong for a stock trans wether auto or stock clutch manual and a stock torque convertor will be crying.



I run a #6 on my 160 pump and wouldn't want any more since I have injectors and DV's. I use the valet switch method when I want to run cooler. When I was just running the #6 it ran pretty good with the stock turbo and I didn't have to back out of it most of the time for EGT.

Hmmm... .

I wouldn't think that Chappel would recommend a 4 and not show it on his website. If you look at his charts of plates the ones highlighted in red are his recommendations for the various pumps. The 4 plate disappeared along time ago due to excessive smoke for the street. Back in 95 when I got my first plate kit from him they were available and on his charts but were for off road use only. They have long since disappeared from his charts for the average owner.
 
I found those recomendations for the #4 plate in the govener spring description on the TST web site. I did find it odd there was no #4 plate in the plate application chart.
