who is using what for mufflers on there 4 inch system , i have a system ready to go on and have no muffler , i have almost enough pipe if i add a muffler , or i just need a real short piece if i straight pipe it ... i went to a napa store and had the get me the Walker muffler that is used in ted j's system but for 100 bucks , it NOT being aluminzed and ONLY a 1 year warranty i thought it was not a good choice , i was thinking of getting a dynomax race magnum , but want to hear from memebers on what they have and how they like it ... decisions decisions ... #ad

I'm running a 4" ATS, elbow down, including their 4" straight thru muffler. It sounds great, and has almost no restriction, it's enough to still hear the stereo w/o ear damage. #ad

Walker 21471 is aluminized, a couple inches longer than stock, good sound attenuation, no restriction that I can tell. The core is 4", perforated, so nothing obstructs the flow path. This muffler and its 3" brother, 21468, work and last a long time on a diesel. I have been recommending them for several years. The 3" has a shorter core, and so does not cut sound quite as well.

Hey John, I have a custom 4" system on my rig so I had the choice of any muffler I wanted. I went with the Dynomax, straight thru, welded race magnum. All I can say is wow! Muffler is small for an easy fit, aluminized, and strong - being completely welded. Sounds awesome. With all windows up on the highway, hardly noticeable. Around town with rear slider and/or pass. window open - it's music. Deep throaty roar, but not annoying. Anytime you get between two structures or along side a wall on pass. side, its something else. All my buds comment on the "Big Rig" like sound of my truck. I highly recommend this muffler. Good luck and have fun.

joe d. , the 21471 is that couple inches longer than the stock factory muffler , or the resonater that is on the truck , if the muffler , thats one LONG muffler , the stock one looks about 4 feet long ... and the thru pipe , does it go all the way thru or is it like the other walker and the BD which has a a short perforated pipe , leading into a hollow section of the outer can size then another short pipe out , i know the BD has some sort of crimp on the end of the in pipe where you can see straigh thru the ted j recommended walker with the open chamber

craig , thanks i was thinking of that exact muffler , the 6 inch welded bullet , and for 70 bucks thru summit or jegs and the fact that its aluminized is a good deal

mark , i just followed your linl on another thread to ATS and was going to call to see what type of muffler they have ansd if they sell it seperately ... .

other feel freee to chime in , i ain't spent any money yet ... #ad

Hey John, just to let you know, I don't have the Bullet, but rather the Race series, round, straight through, welded with 4" in and out. Probably similar the the bullet though. This thing is hardly any bigger than the 4" tubing. Either would probably sound great - I'm really happy with how mine turned out. Dynomax website used to list part numbes, but doesn't appear to anymore. Anyhow, good luck.

Hello John,
The muffler used in the JRE 4" system is a walker 22572, this is a fully aluminized muffler with all welded construction of 16 guage material.
It is the only muffler that passed the sound and flow tests we ran that included 12 different mufflers from all the manufacturers including the Dynomax race magnum. too loud.

Good Luck

Hey guys,

I had a 4" Allied truck muffler on my 98 before I PIPE BOMBED it. It had great sound, and the turbo chirp was great. Straight thru design... you can put your arm thru it #ad
It is sitting in my garage right now... For sale for 60 bucks... May need some creative welding & fitting...

Here are some dimensions for comparison:
94-7, 10" x 28" case, 33" long
98-up, 8. 5" x 25. 5" case, 33" long
21468, 6 x 22. 5" case, 29. 5" long
21471, 7 x 28. 5" case, 35. 5" long
22572, 9 x 20. 5" case, 27. 5" long

As noted before, the stock mufflers have 4" inlet, 3" outlet. The Walker 21468 has 3" in and out, the 21471 and 22572 have 4".

I forgot to mention that the Walker -68 and -71 have a perforated pipe going all the way through the case. I suspect the -72 does too but haven't inspected it. I took its measurements from the catalog and adjusted to match the actual measurements I took from the others (slightly different from catalog specs, because of such things as crowned ends on the case).

ted , the -572 i saw at a napa store(napa told me they get them from walker and i thought i saw walker and the walker number stamped in the case) was not aluminized , thats why i didn't buy it and it is a straight thru but has an open chamber which to me will somewhat mess up the flow characteristics , but i'm not an engineer so i could be wrong . i haven't seen a walker boxed -572 at a parts store so the real walker with the lifetime warranty may be aluminized , but if its not aluminized and has that warranty then its fine by me . one other question , did you test the race magmun or the 6" round welded dynomax ? also ted did you try the walker -471 ?

joe d , is the -471 an actual straight thru or is it just like the -572 with the open chamber in the middle? i just went and crawled under my truck and the factory muffler isn't as big as i thought and its nowhere near the size of the one that was on my 98 gasjob, that was 48 inches long

i also took not of the F***ed up exhaust from the factory , its a 3" pipe off the turbo adaptor , then it necks down to maybe 2. 75" going int the resonator , then 4" out of the resonator to 4" into the muffler to 3" out of the muffler ... what were they thinking ??? no wonder the turbo spools up faster by removing the stock muffler and resonator .

craig , i got the terminology wrong i knew you didn't have a race magumn , it it was the 6" round welded ...

evan email me , as to what you mean by creative welding and fitting ... also were did you find the allied muffler , that's what i was originally looking for , allied is the muffler mopar uses on there cat back systems from mopar performance , the one i had on my 360 gas job had a nice rumble to it and no packing material , if it was a 4 inch i would have put it on my truck...

again thanks everyone and sorry for being long winded ... #ad
