4" or 5" Exhaust, with or without muffler.

I'm looking to put a new exhaust system on the truck. Looking for some advice on this issue. I want it to be loud, but not so loud that i'm getting pulled over by the cops constantly.



I've been advised to go with the BullyDog brand. But I'm not sure of wether to go for the 4" or 5". Also Muffler or no Muffler.



Any help would be appreciated.

I have the Bullydog 5" exhaust and love it! I got it from Scott (Massdiesel) and got a Huge hand from Straight 6 Jeff installing it.

Mine is muffled but it's so staright through I doubt it muffles much .



It is an impressive system. It lowered my EGT's and increased Turbo spoolup noticeably from my Straightpiped stock exhaust.



Only drawback is that I couldn't get my spare to fit underneath with the huge 5" snaked under the truck. If thats important go with a 4". I particularly like Ted Jannetty's system and would have gone with his if it wasn't for the good deal I got on the 5".

5" without a muffler will have a nasty drone around 2200rpm... ... its fun for a while but when towing it'll give you a headache. Not sure what brand it was... ... ... . maybe Floor It will correct me on the brand. I beieve he installed a muffler and all is well.

I've got Rip's 4" system, no muffler. It does have somewhat of a drone right at 2200rpm (for only about 100rpm range). But since I have the 6 speed/3. 54, my normal cruising RPM is below that. But even when it kicks it, it's wasn't very annoying. Then again, I'm still young and loud is a relative term.



As far as overall sound goes, it's awesome. A definite head turner, but I haven't had any trouble with law because of it.

I have a banks muffler, and rear piece, with a local made front part , 4" the muffler is straight thru with holes drilled in it , nice sound, just right, so that people say "what the" especially when the exauhst brake is on

I live in Winsted and work in Bloomfield. I'm also dealing with Scott. I wanted to install the system on wrench day. He needs a 2 wk lead time for ordering. That gives me until the end of the week to decide. I'd love to be able to see/hear your system before hand.
