Just picked up a set of Toyo-M55's - so far they seem to be a great tire. I was wondering about rotating them. Should I buy a 5th for a spare and then do a 5 wheel rotation? (I have a spare matching chrome rim already). Another advantage would be a spare that always matched for my LS rearend. But would I likely get the additional 25% of mileage out of the tires to justify the extra cost?

Thanks,

If you kept to your rotations religously I think you'd get the extra cost of the tire back. I did that with my factory michelins and ended up getting just about 60k on them. I did not buy 5 new tires though, I just stuck the best on as my spare and bought 4.

Before buying the 5th tire make sure it will fit into the spare carrier if you upsized them. Else you may be toting the spare around in the bed.

I have 5 matching wheels and 315s now. The spare 315 I picked up used. My next rotation I the tread looks about the same as the spare and I will start 5 tire rotation. Like stated above, if you stick to it and rotate often enough you should get enough extra mileage to pay for the 5th tire. My 315 on stock chrome 17x8 wheel fits fine under the truck. A true 35" should fit, anything bigger may not.

Someone posted this a while back. I think that is what I will use.

Spare -> RF

RF -> LR

LR -> LF

LF -> RR

RR -> Spare

What size M55s did you buy? Yeah, get a fifth and rotate it in. Makes the whole set last longer and forces you to keep the spare in good condition.

I bought six M55s last year for a big Alaska trip so we'd have two full-size spares. I keep all six in rotation. Man, the way these things last I won't have to buy tires for a long time.
