I have no experience with the shell model but I had the Keystone model on two different trucks. It was very light and surprisingly durable for what I put it through.

Hmmmm, I don't know what you're going to do, but if I were doing it mostly for the dogs and only to sleep in occasionally, I would get a fiberglass shell and a Bed Rug. For comfort, you could add a Fantastic Fan to the roof vent. FWIW
 
We looked at four wheel campers, visited the factory in Woodland CA and actually came close to buying one. For a basic pop-up camper they were well built and light weight, and I think they have been around for a while. Our biggest concerns were 1) lack of storage under the bed (doesn't sound like it would be an issue for you, and 2) price. Sounds like it would work well for what you want to use it but I agree with Fireman that there is probably a cheaper alternative. However, FW Campers are a lot like Cummins Rams and hold value pretty well, so you probably won't lose on one.
