truck went in to clear codes at 8am-i am out of here in ten minutes-service manager comes out at 9-tells me the truck is making 41lbs of boost!!uhhh not thr one i drove in i said-wouldn't it be a rocket-sat stood and paced, drank about 6 cups of free coffee-that helps-if this costs me money im gonna !##$$% lose it,11. 30 they figured out i need a map sensor, question is do i need them to clear the computer or can i just buy it there, like there is a choice and put it in myself??thought i would ask lpat the ******* $200:--)

Any bozo can screw in a MAP sensor. Should be on the aftermarket shelves too. I dunno.

The ECM was probably cutting back the fuel as it thought you had a boost problem. Should run better with proper information from the sensor.

Oh most definatly! Unscrew the old inscrew the new. The Ecm is defueling BADLY as an overboost code ( P0234 (M) Turbo Boost Limit Exceeded Problem detected in turbocharger wastegate ) Which is a default overboost code anything higher than 20#. you should be good as new. But please just screw it in.

It is #7 in This Diagram

Tell him to look up 3348747 and see what it is. Its a "Pressor Sensor" should run around $50.

I see you got it ordered as I posted, what part number did they get you?

Naw no need to call back, but when you recieve it post the part number for comparision sake. And what did you pay for it? This is for your 01 truck correct?

its that kind of trash that at 65k miles makes me say 'warrenty shmorenty'

lets all say it together now... 'i am my own warrenty station, warrenty shmorenty'

Marcel,

You'd better remind the service manager that, beginning in 2001, the map sensors read absolute pressure and not standard pressure as pre-01s did. Also let him know that the voltage output is also 0. 5 higher than pre-01s. If he is not using the updated software he will read your max boost at around 42 psi.

19 psi boost + 14. 7 psi atmospheric pressure = 33. 7 psi absolute

2. 5 volts (new map) / 2. 0 volts (old map) = 1. 25 offset

1. 25 * 33. 7 = 42. 1 psi

Fantastic info, but don't you think the SM will be a little to proud to listen? Well okay maybe one or two wouldn't. Most of them wouldn't understand and you'd have to be there on the day that the diesel tech is around and then try to get him to understand it.

YMMV

Yea, he might not like to hear it but it's common with ODB software. Most have not been updated for the new MAPs. There are threads going back to 2000 reporting dealers and even Cummins shops getting high boost readings from their software.

So after waiting several days for the new part, they put it in and it still reads high. DOH !

Wade P... "too proud. . " hhmm... I think I remember something like that... . but it was to the Tech. . when I was having a TSB done on the exhaust manifold... Tech was beating the crap out of my metal heater hose lines... when I mentioned about the TSB. . and removing the holder on the line... . and him using a 14mm socket on the 13mm nuts... he asked if I wanted to do it and turned to me with the wrenchs... "Gladdly" :D :D ... ...

But with the overboost code. . if you are under the 100,000 miles. . Remind them nicely about the milage. . I would have them install the new sensor... and let them be out the labor and sensor... unless you cann't get your money back for the sensor U purchased...

Trying to explain to them about gauge pressure. . and Absolute pressures... Atmospheric pressure... (1sq in of atmosphere pushing on their hard heads. ) and adding them together. . and that it is read in voltage. . and "just how do U know they changed the voltage in 2001??? "

The more I talk to them the more I get steamed..... (So sometimes is just easier to do it your self. . even if it cost a little more... ) Ok... I'll step down off the box now... .

Good luck. . and let us know how U turn out... .

update

part# pressure sensor-3417030

lift pump-3990105----spun the sensor in--took her for a spin

just dont seem to have the ass it should- took the grounds off for about an hour-still have the 0234-any thoughts would be appreciate
