I read where the 5 speed trans in my 96 cummins dually is rated for 450 lbs torque? Man my buick has more than that. What is going to happen when I put 680 to it?
First, you'll need a new clutch. Then, if you don't hammer on it, it should last a while. I'm pushing 800, (OK 797 ), and mine is still OK as far as I can tell.
Jim, I am only going to install a #11 plate, and remove the cat, everything else will be stock, I hope the stock clutch will hold it, I am at 69,000 miles now.
When I first put in my #11, I found out how bad my clutch really was. Had about 85-90000 miles on it. A lot of it was towing heavy, though. I could have gotten a few more thousand out of it, even then, but I started having too much fun.
