I would suspect that the existing Sterling trucks that were originally designed by Ford were designed to use parts supplied by Infineon, Ford's spun off accessory/parts division.
You meant to say Visteon... Infineon is a semiconductor company spun off from Siemens.

I agree with Rusty. The Ford labeled parts will eventually get phased out. DaimlerChrysler is the largest commercial truck builder in the world, though, and as those Ford labeled parts are used up, they have plenty of DC parts sources to begin producing them.

Probably so - heck, I'm an old man, so I still think Motorcraft, Delco-Remy, etc. :{

uh huh, or FoMoCo and the little insignia that represented Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth and Desoto or when Detriot Diesel had General Motors on the block

Is the 45/ 5500 going to be like the GM 45/5500 or will it be like the ford 450 550? The GM truck is just too big, butt the ford is better sized. :p

I don't know how to import pictures (computer illiterate) but there is a picture of the upcoming Sterling Bullet/Dodge Ram 4500/5500 on the web. I found it by searching "Sterling Trucks Future Products. " Actually its a drawing but it appears to be a Dodge Ram 4500/5500 with a pickup bed but with a Sterling grille. The caption says it is due out mid-2007. The site appears to contain a presentation done by Sterling for its employees.

Just for info, the US spec Sprinter cargo van has always been built in Dusseldorf by Mercedes. It was then broken down and transported on two different boats in kit form to SC where it was reassembled in Gaffney at a Freightliner assembly plant. It was never "built" by Freightliner, just reassembled in a plant with excess capacity and close to an Atlantic port.

The 2007 Sprinter will be reassembled at the former American LaFrance plant in Charleston. It is closer to the port and this plant will have higher outout available. It will continue to be sold predominantly through Dodge with a few Freightliner dealers also selling it.

The reassembly process is to avoid a high tariff known as the chicken tax.

So are they making the 4500/5500 or is it all talk? I'm willing to give them to the end of 07 with the word. I NEED A BIGGER TRUCK.

Latest issue of Trailer Life has an article about the new Ford 450 PICKUP with a max. GCWR of 33,000#. Don't like Fords but at least they have heard the need and done something.

The Dodge Ram/Sterling Bullet 4500/5500 is coming mid-07 according to Sterlings own internal memos.

Hope its a Chassis Cab and not that wierd looking overgrown pick-up style look on the previous page.

A 4-door 4X4 model with AT LEAST 96" from cab to center-axle.

Lookin' Good!

I may change my mind and trade in my trouble free low mileage slightly overloaded '03 if my Lance slide-in camper will fit in the bed. A 6. 7L with the 68RFE and a higher GVW Rating would be very tempting... :D

With a GCWR of 33,000# isn't it going to require a class B CDL at least?

Kevin

In Texas, a GCWR of 26,001+ lbs and a trailer GVWR of 10,000+ lbs in a non-commercial RV application requires a non-CDL Class A drivers license.

From the Texas Transportation Code:

SUBCHAPTER D. CLASSIFICATION OF DRIVER'S LICENSES

§ 521. 081. CLASS A LICENSE.

A Class A driver's license authorizes the holder of the license to operate:

(1) a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more; or

(2) a combination of vehicles that has a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, if the gross vehicle weight rating of any vehicle or vehicles in tow is more than 10,000 pounds.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg. , ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

§ 521. 082. CLASS B LICENSE.

(a) A Class B driver's license authorizes the holder of the license to operate:

(1) a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating that is more than 26,000 pounds;

(2) a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,000 pounds or more towing:

(A) a vehicle, other than a farm trailer, with a gross vehicle weight rating that is not more than 10,000 pounds; or

(B) a farm trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating that is not more than 20,000 pounds; and

(3) a bus with a seating capacity of 24 passengers or more.

(b) For the purposes of Subsection (a)(3), seating capacity is computed in accordance with Section 502. 162, except that the operator's seat is included in the computation.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg. , ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

§ 521. 083. CLASS C LICENSE.

A Class C driver's license authorizes the holder of the license to operate:

(1) a vehicle or combination of vehicles not described by Section 521. 081 or 521. 082; and

(2) a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 26,001 pounds towing a farm trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating that is not more than 20,000 pounds.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg. , ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

§ 521. 084. CLASS M LICENSE.

A Class M driver's license authorizes the holder of the license to operate a motorcycle or moped.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg. , ch. 165, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.
