Is the fly-wheel on the 2000 truck with a 4500 trans externally balanced or is the engine internally balanced? I see no doll pin and the holes are evenly spaced on the fly-wheel. It looks like it doesn't matter which way it goes on. Anybody know?

Dave,

Your F/W is not externally balanced. Install on any bolt hole combination that you like. One tip to help safely install it, is to find the same bolt size and pitch, cut the head off, radius it slightly, cut a slot in the head, install it at 12:00 and hang your F/W on it, install bolts, repeat, tighten, then torque. Don't forget to remove the pin bolt.

Good to notice though and not doubt your work.

The externally balanced F/W's that we see have either a cast in lug like the 5. 0L Mustang, or a cast in void area like a bunch of GM's or the rare version seems to be the Dodge 360" where they drill 3 large (1 1/4" or so) c-balance holes in the back side.
