Any advice on having transmission replace/rebuild done. Mopar rebuilt installed by Dodge is 50% more than local big shops charge rebuilding mine. 4,200 Vs 2,800 The Warranty for Mopar goes 3year 100,000 while local shops charge @ 500 extra for 3 /36,000.

i would not buy an ats either. if you need a list of a few people that have had dealings with them let me know i will produce it.

My ATS has been awesome. I called them about a dozen times before I ordered it. They were knowledgeable and bent over backwards to answer all my questions. My experience with ATS has been A1. I believe they are the only one with a 5 year 500,000mile warrany. A buddy has a Suncoast and is very happy with it. I suggest you go with the closest one out of the four.

I would agree, ATS was extremely satisfactory leading up to my purchase of an ATS; 47RE Stage III transmission and ATS Five Star Viskus Clutch Drive Torque Converter (package deal). I installed it my self, wired the transmission controller and it has been killer ever since!!

I ordered some parts through them and their customer service was good when you're buying their stuff, however, a lot of the customer service complaints come regarding warranty work.

Georend has great customer service and the two shops that I have had install his transmissions for me say that he builds the nicest converter they have ever seen. That being said If I had it to do all over again I might save up the extra money to shoe horn an Allison in mine

Yeah! Just wait until you have problems... ... ... all that 'extremely satisfactory' service you received prior to purchase will all but disappear when warranty problems come about. My 5-Star was supposed to be the best aftermarket convertor money could buy... ... ..... a 100hp over stock truck killed it!! Any Company can claim 5/500k warranty, but actually delivering on it is another story#@$%!

Go with Goerend! This transmission was installed 3yrs ago and with much more power applied to it than the ATS saw and has worked flawlessly. I just purchased a 40' Toyhauler back in March and my transmission has successfully pulled it without a sweat for nearly 11k miles. The transmission only has 28k but my old ATS only lasted 15mos. and 13k miles. Pulling a 12k trailer through WVA mountains killed it:rolleyes:

There was a DTT in my truck when I bought it, and I like it just fine.

As a fleet manager in my previous life, I put Suncoast trannys in several Fords and was extremely happy with the performance and the customer service. As Suncoast and I are in the same state, I'd go to them for any trans needs in the future. You might consider the locations of the various builders as part of your decision-making.

One thing for sure, if you haul anything or have increased power, I wouldn't spend money on a stock rebuild. I have no experience with stock Dodge rebuilds, but my fleet sure tore up plenty of dealer-rebuilt or factory-rebuilt Ford trannies.

I replaced my original with the Mopar rebuilt and it is performing flawlessly. A bit pricey but the warranty from dodge and the availability of national service should prove worth it. The st. louis dealer and mechanic were real pros on the diagnosis and timely replacement.

I am pusshing 95k on my 05 pulling a 13,000 5th seems to be ok now at what miles would or should I concider replacing the transmission or just the tq thanks Ski

At 135,000 the torque converter in my 97 gave up the ghost. I ordered a box full of goodies from DTT and dove in. There was NOTHING wrong with the transmission, just a bad clutch in the torque converter. There are part numbers inked on the face of the clutch plates, these numbers could be be read at 135,000 miles. i. e. if it ain't broken don't try to fix it... :-laf

I did put all of the DTT goodies including the torque converter in, truck is knocking on the door of 270 thousand, doing just fine :)

I liked the Gorends and the DTT when I was shopping. Heard good things about the DTT TC and went that route.

I've had zero problems with my fully built DTT I got a few years ago. I've got 23K of 18,000 pound toy hauler miles on it and I pull a 7 ton flat deck around town some times. When I dropped the pan for the first filter/fluid change I was very happy to find a very clean pan with no metal, just clutch remains. Since then the pan has been very clean. I change my ATF often like DTT says and the extra deep pan with the plug helps a bunch. The 10 quarts of ATF can get pricey but, the unloaded 125 degree trans temps keep the fluid in good shape.

I had a DTT installer close by and that made the choice easy. Even when I'm hammering the trans in summer traffic the temps stay around 200 with my big trailer. About 150 while on the open road. The shifts are firm and quick, its actually a smooth shifter when on the boost. Light throttle will slam the gears sometimes, it likes a heavy foot, say 20 psi and gets things moving right now. I really like the tight Billet TC.

I highly recommend you get all new OEM tansmission oil lines with a fresh trans. And watch the routing of them to make sure they don't rub on some thing down the road. Mine changed position some during the first 10K and needed the little clips adjusted.

Depends on what you want. If the original transmission was good for you, than I suspect a MOPAR replacement with warranty would be a good way to go. If you require more performance then, as others have suggested, get one built with performance parts. I went with DTT parts put together by a small shop specializing in diesel truck transmissions. I could not be happier, of course I spent a little more.

I got screwed 1x by a shop in Texas, I paid extra for the nationwide "Atra" warranty. If I replace mt 47RE, I'm think I'll go with Jasper, or the Mopar rebuilt. Nothing fancy, I'll stay with the oem specs.
