I had my VB out this weekend and I was wondering if the accumulator piston on the 47RE should have 2 springs?

Reason I ask is my truck only has one, the larger one that goes against the VB.

I had my Jeep FSM out (don't have one for the truck) to see what the torque was for the VB. Well when I put it away this morning, I noticed the accumulator pistion for the 42RE has one large spring on the bottom against the VB, like what my truck has, and also a smaller one that goes up into the trans case and into the top of the piston.

Wondering if that smaller spring was lost during a rebuild, or if it's not needed... or??

The truck shifts in gear pretty hard from park or neutral, and I was thinkng perhaps this is the reason? I don't completely understand what the accumulator piston does.

I beleive that there is just one spring there. I have seen people put in a solid piece instead of the spring, that definately firms up the shift, but I wouldn't suggest it. Most times a plug is put in the orifice of the accumulator to slow its movement down.
