injector power levels??

Gear Vendors Overdrive

Very impressive! Confirms my way of thinking. Instead of charging out and replacing a perfectly good stock transmission, drive it until it fails, while you are driving your "free" transmission a place like DTT is working on improving an a good product. Good to see DTT is not resting, hope the other guys are doing the same.

Every time I think I know what I want another post pops up and makes me rethink my decision. I'll just keep goin till I am forced into a decision.

Thanks for the informative post!

tractorface,

A lot of our dealers and customers have been bugging my dad to tell guys what is inside DTT transmissions that makes it different from the other guys. He has been pretty tight lipped about how he was making these trucks live even with 800 + hp.

It was actually a comment made by Proturbo99 that made him realize that unless we show you guys how different it is inside our DTT transmission you guys will assume they are all the same because the pricing is all about the same in the industry.

Proturbo's comments in simple terms was that the diesel industry was overcharging for these diesel transmissions.

As we dont feel we belong in that catagory, in the next little while we will break down the internal components for you guys and you can decide for yourselves.

The specially built parts from DTT always put a big smile on my face, every time I see or install them, they add to the fun of building a DTT. Most mechanics appreciate the "why didn't I think of that" parts :D . Not only do you appreciate it for the cleverness, you appreciate the end result, which is getting the customer's power to the ground, reliably, on a long-term basis.

The servo pistons are only a very small part of all the innovation that goes into a DTT. Every aspect of the transmission is addressed, nothing is left to chance !

These servos and the principle behind their design, reflect Bill's view that the entire transmission must be addressed, and problem areas eliminated or minimized, in order to have a transmission that will last a long time. It provides a powerful foundation for the DTT valve body and torque convertor to do their work.

If I were doing a stock transmission overhaul would these components be available to use, or would they work only as part of a DTT rebuild and upgrade?

Ggibson, You might want to call Bill K and ask him yourself. I personally cant see doing a stock rebuild, with a few DTT parts, might as well do the entire unit the right way,and put your hp to the ground, not into heat.

GGibson, I was in Santa Ynez two years ago, as well as Santa Barbara and Solvang, just touring. Beautiful country, especially Lake Cachuma !!!

Snowman is correct, you need to call Bill, but it's simply not enough in my opinion to do bits and pieces. You need the package, it's truly best in the long run if the entire transmission is looked at. It's sort of comparable to putting new shocks on a car with worn out springs. The shocks will give the car new life... ... for a while..... There's much more to a DTT than installing improved parts, the life of your transmission rides on the adjustments a DTT technician makes to the entire transmission.

billet servo, etc.

Have installed several billet servos now and must say pressure tests show definite improvement. Reduced leakage in servo adds to integrity of front clutch circuit as well as reducing bindup on 2-3 shift. Bill is working constantly on improvements. Only those ideas that prove out are installed in DTT transmissions or during upgrades. This gives those who choose DTT not only quality and performance, but also peace of mind.

James: What you are saying is that the updates/new parts are available to those who go with DTT. I can see the logic to this. However, how bout those who already have the DTT transmission - can they be retrofited?

retrofit?

Yes, the servo can be installed as a retrofit. It requires valvebody removal to access the band struts as they must be removed to allow removal of the servo. It also requires a stout thumb to compress the servo cover to remove snap ring as there is a fairly stout spring under the servo cover. HTH

Mr. Kondolay once said that the trannmission shift pattern was 1-2-1-3. How can you have a 2-3 bindup if it shifts from 1st to 3rd?

Absolutley amazing how that works... I don't feel the transmission shift into 1st after 2nd before 3rd, but then again, I don't feel a bind up either...

... Ahhhh, now I know why I don't have the "bind up" issue - it all makes sense now - I don't have a 2-3 shift at all...
