Hitting 100K, turning up the power and anticipating a fried 47RE and TQ. . I see lots of sigs with - - - VB's & TQ's. What about the transmissions? Can you buy a "high performance" trans rebuild kit from DTT or ATS? They seem to offer extra clutch disc's for primary and overdrive, plus HD bands for second, among other things. I know a local trans shop that does all kinds of "enhancements" to a 47RE in addition to all of the goodies that go into the case. Is this what most are doing, besides driving to one of a handfull of "authorized or specialty" Cummins capable transmission shops? It is crazy to pay 2 way shipping (in case of a core) on a complete trans, especially from CAN. Finally, what about cleaning the lines and cooling units up front after trans/TQ meltdown? How, with what, ATF? Thanks for any info.

I don't think it is crazy to pay two way shipping to get a complete transmission from a good builder such as ATS, BD, DTT or Goerend. (disclaimer, names in alphabetical order, not by preference) I paid $1426. 00 to have my trans air freighted to Hawaii and surface return the core to Wheat Ridge, CO. I have the peace of mind that the trans was built the way the after market manufacturer wants it built. I did the transmission swap myself, and it wasn't too bad of a job. It did take me about 12 hours total. If I ever do it again I think I would be able to do it in 10. If I have access to a hoist, 6 hours. Little hard working on your back.

I flushed my lines with mineral spirits using a suction gun first, then did the same with a couple of quarts of ATF.

raf2000, If you would call DTT they would tell you were the closest Approved installer is located, I just can't remember if there is one located in the deep south other than Dallas. You could always but a built transmission from them and install it too.

I think it is a smart move to get the whole rebuilt transmission. With the number of miles you have, you'll probably want to rebuild it anyway. I found that I'd have the same amount in it by ordering the complete transmission with triple disc clutch than if I ordered the parts and had a local shop do the rest. And if you buy the whole thing you are covered by their warrantee and no question about parts compatibility.

The companies mentioned are all good. I chose the Goerend Brothers unit. $2550 + $135 shipping. It's nice!

Also, Give Don Ramer a call at ATS. They're a TDR advertiser and their 800 number is here on the site. Any competent shop can install the ATS upgrades... ATS strengthens, re-engineers and/or hardens all of the stock/marginal components on the 47RH & 47RE

But talk to all of the trans builders. I did. I did go with ATS in April. It is the BEST thing I ever did for my truck. Don & Clint will explain the reasons behind every engineering upgrade they've made to the trans. Also, I watched mine being dissassembled and then rebuilt, using the ATS parts, and man it was FUN! Koa Man, I think it took them less than 2 hours to put my trans in! ;)

Yeah, but I bet they can't trim a coconut tree in 10 min. or less. :D

The key to speed in almost anything is repetition. I don't care to repetition a trans R&R to much. HEHEHEH.
