Yes it is possible. Bill K and I talked about it and I decided fluid coupling is the way to go for me. Lock up has its goods and bads like everything else.

You would have to change alot of things. Why bother.

I saw this offered as an option by a vendor and I was suprised.

I have no experience with lockup TCs and probably won't for a long time but it is interesting to discuss.

Side by side what are the pros and cons of each system?

46rh

Pro's / Con's

less electronics, / casing is weaker

less weight / less top end

solid shafts / lower mpg at crusing

better bottom end / exhaust brake is useless

less cost/

You can upgrade casing to better designed later 2nd gen like I had done.

46re

Pro's / Con's

better top end / more electronics

exhaust brake will work some / more weight

casing is stronger / hollow shafts

more mpg / cost more to modify

These are my take on it.

As far as the stock input shafts are concerned... . How does the strength of the solid shaft on the 46rh compare to that of the hollow shaft on the 46re?

46re or 47re?

What year did these come out?

Mark- What year casing do you have. This is getting very confusing now. I'm having my transmission done at the end of the month. DTT TC, VB & updated planetary. My installer says he has a lot of parts so it might be worthwhile to ask. I had not heard of this as an option.
