I Am A Newbee To The Turbo Diesel World, Just Over A Year Now. This Is My First Time With A Dodge, I Mean Cummins Is What I Bought And I Got A Dodge. Although It Has Been A Really Good Truck With 192k And Still Strong.

Ok Sorry, To The Point. I Have Heard Of Adding A Switch To The 47re To Make The Tc Lock-up In Any Gear. Is This True? Has Anybody Done It? Maybe Some Instructions?

(before Anybody Says It) I Know I Need A Transmission, And Actually I Have One On The Way That I Am Going To Fix Myself. Once New Trans Is In I Am Going To Spray The Crap Out Of The Old Cummins. I Am Kind Of A Nitrous Junkie. Oh If Anyone Doesnt Know It Is N-o-s Not Naws?? You Dont Call Your Dvd Player David Do You?

Thanks For Your Time.

Welcome! Do a search on "Mystery Switch" and you'll find a ton of stuff. I put one in mine and really like it. There are different ways to do it; mine is 3 way switch, REGULAR-FORCED OFF-FORCED ON. I like to use it coming down grades so I don't use the brakes as much. Also, look here.

hey, thanks for the input andy. does your switch lets you go through the gears upshifting with lock-up? also with the forced off option will it lock-up in overdrive regardless or stay unlocked throughtout acceleration?

You CAN go through the gears with it locked, but I don't think it's good for the transmission. You definately don't want to do it while just puttering around. I'm in 3rd by 20 mph when driving gently and lockup at that speed drops rpm's to almost a stall, definately lugs it. With it in the OFF position, there is no lockup in any gear. One of the guys here has a button on his floor, like the old hi-low dimmer switch, that unlocks it when he stops. His screen is Joe. G.

Mrector:

The lockup switch will allow lockup in D only, and not in 1st gear. If the switch is on when you hit 2nd, it will lock and pull thru the gears as you get to that corresponding speed.

As for mine, I made a handheld button from a piece of 1/2" copper tubing, 2 caps, and a momentary switch. That is connected to about 2' of wire. Then I have a disable switch next to my OD lockout switch. Works quite nice.

I wouldnt put a switch into a known worn transmission. You`ll just fry the converter. If you just use it for the occasional early lockup and not spin the bejezuz out of it, it may last. But I recommend at least a rebuilt converter with a billet case and valve body mod to up the holding pressure.

good luck
