I am going to be changing the transmission fluid in my trans soon. While im in there I am going to put a new filter and adjust the bands. I was just wondering if there is anything else I should do while im in there? I going to install a drain plug but other then that, thats all I can think of.

I was considering a shift kid but cant seem to find any solid info on them as far as the exact pros and cons. If I did go with one which one (sorry if im starting a war)? Also how much tuning is involved? If anyone had some input that would be great thanks.

I would like to help, I have a transgo diesel kit setting on the work bench and the transmission draining now. I have read good things about the kit.

The Transgo kit is awesome. It's time consuming doing it though. Read carefully 5-6 times before you tear the VB apart. I was doing a trans rebuild at the same time. It took me 3-4 hours to disassemble, clean, and assemble the VB with the shift kit. I had to split the VB 2 extra times because I missed something inside. :{ Not fun I'll tell ya. The result is super though, shifts like a champ. It also pumps oil in park, so the trans warms up in park. If your truck isn't turned up much, put the pressure screw at 2 turns like it says. I put mine at 3 or 3. 5 and it's too much. I need to turn it back down.

Alright guys thanks. I think I will get a shift kit then. The bigest reason being the pumping in park. I wasnt aware that could be done in the drive way. I kind of figured it needed to be done in a shop.

One more question, are there differnet trans go shift kits for the 47re? I guess buy that I mean are there different stages of kits?

once again thanks for the help.

Not as far as I could tell. The kit is for gassers and diesels, and you have to pay attention to the instructions to go the right way. I got mine from PATC in Louisianna. If you are not above average mechanically, I'd say have a shop do it. I'm a heavy equipment tech, and I've been in 727's, but not in the last 13 or so years. If I started with the trans in the truck to do it I'd say allow a full 8 hours, maybe a little over.

Hope this helps!

I had a Transgo reprogramming kit installed when I had my transmission rebuilt. The difference is like day & night. It will shift alot faster (& firmer) but in the long run will extend the life of your bands.

Yes there are different ones, I called Transgo they ask me what I wanted then told me which kit. But yes, get the one for diesels I think it is TFOD. The instructions are written very poorly and are vague. I am in the middle of doing it now, there is a video online from Transgo not very good ether.

thanks for the input guys. I did a little more looking and found out what I was looking for. It is TFOD.

I like to think I above average mechanically. Do not let my horrible typing and grammer fool;) I have rebuilt 727 my self and installed shift kits in them before. Im fully prepared to take a whole day or even a weekend if I have to. I would rather not rush it, and I have another vehicle.
