Maybe pull the TC cover and see what color the TC is. My stock was not painted but the DTT is blue. The DTT also has a drain, I do not know if all after markets have them.

I just towed @ 7K pounds from Birmingham to Nashville. My TC lockup is manually controlled by way of a switch. Cruising at 75mph with the TC locked, my transmission temp sat on 150* steady as she could be. ECT was 190* and I still have my Heat Exchanger.

I’d say you have a TC lockup issue if your temps get that high at cruising speed. Nothing you can do in stop-and-go traffic. It’s going to get warmer. Popping it up into neutral when you stop will help instead of sitting there in drive.

Just to mention it, the Heat Exchanger works in both directions.
And fluid to fluid is very efficient.

Do you have enough flow through the cooling system? Maybe your check valve is clogged.

Does the Gen2 have a Thermostat in the Air/Oil Radiator like the Gen3 has???

I seem to recall the Bill(AKA DTT) removed the check valve as part of his builds. He used the 96 output line that a port in it for the temp sender and a custom extension braided hose to reach from the 96 line to the exchanger.

My TC is blue. All the labels on the trans are painted over. I tried lifting the paint but just damaged the label completely. My coolant does not go over 200°F unless my trans gets extremely hot. I have had the trans temp light come on before I was able to get a gauge installed. Once the trans light came on the engine heated to 220°F. That was pulling the Grapevine on I-5 with 8500lbs with a 105°F ambient temp. I can hear the clutch fan come on real loud trying to cool it down. I honestly think my engine cooling system is working great. I really wish I could get some info on the trans. I am going to change the filter and possibly try a flush. I would like to increase the lockup pressure also. I am going to see if I can figure that out. I may add the TFOD kit, but am wondering if it is too late for that. I am also wondering if my TC is smoked. I am not sure how to test that other than doing a stall speed test which isn't worth grenading my trans. At that point I can just have my TC rebuilt.

I am going to replace that check in the heat exchanger with a straight through fitting. Is that fitting #8 JIC x 3/8"MNPT?
