Well moving ahead with my 47RE rebuild.
I have a 2018- 2500 6.4, so this has really taken a back burner but coming along.
Found a really fried OD section not too many fibers left in the OD Clutch. The .215" thick backing plate is pretty blue, I ordered one up $26, for now I just flipped it over, but it saw a ton of heat by the looks of it.
My press set up and tool for the OD unit worked out great made it super easy to rebuild. I have replaced almost every snap ring as well some of those are pretty shot looking.
I noticed that there are 2 small gauge wire snap rings for the OD/Direct Clutch housing, the OD snap ring kit off RA only give you one of these so had to order a second one separately. I don't know how critical these are seeing how its a small diameter wire, from what I see its the larger ones that get brittle and break, im sure the one behind my burned OD backing plate saw a lot of heat.
I did not spring for the special 6311 and 6312 measuring tools for the OD section, the 6311 is just a .500 thick gauge, and found someone posted the 6312 gauge is 5.500" long, so I just used a 6.000" long machinist gauge and a .500" machinist ruler, and made the OD measurements that way, then subtracted .500" from my measurements to allow for the longer gauge.
So I now have most of the sub assemblies built up and should be close to the final assembly here soon, ordered that backing plate, that will take a few days to get.
Also found a broken rear clutch Bellville return spring. So this thing was in pretty bad shape. No pic of that.
For the time and money I would not suggest this route, while I have enjoyed the process of taking this on I did not account for the time I spend doing all the other stuff I get my self into outside of this and did not really have the time in my schedule for this.
NE truck most hardware is shot....
Damaged a seal on assembly at some point... just picked up another one for a few $, it just adds time to the build.
