I have noticed that my transmission shifts into overdrive at 12-1300rpm, which seems too soon. I called the dealer and talked to a transmission guy there and he told me about the cable adjustment behind the fuel pump. My question is how do I know that it is properly adjusted so that I don't tear up the clutches, and still raise my shift points? I tried to adjust it once and all seemed fine until I went up a steep incline and the shift from 1st to 2nd started slipping badly. I also noticed some slippage during other shifts? I let it back off and its like it was before. Is it the torque converter thats the problem with these transmission's? I am going to pull it back again only a tiny bit and see whats happens, any input would help. I am really nervous about this transmission. Every Dodge I owned the transmission spilled it guts on the HWY. I am hoping this time for better luck. Thanks

I have a 02 and I am not sure of the differences but I would start with the cale having about 1/8 inch of slack at full throttle.

The converter clutch and OD are electic and computer controled so the cable should have no effect on them.

I think from following the threads here that the 03 are more sensitive than the older trucks.

Yes the converters are way too loose by design.

I recommend that you get to one of the good shops to set it before it gets some damage.

I am still waiting to do mine but I did set the pressure up and added the resistor, it feels much better.

The way I was told by a very respected transmission specialist to adjust the cable is, have someone hold the accelerator to the floor while you check the arm at the transmission end of the cable. You should have a little bit of travel left in the arm. With mine, I adjusted the cable at the throttle crank to just take the slack out and it wound up just right at the transmission end. Too tight and you'll be waiting for 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Too loose and it'll shift to 2nd and 3rd too soon under heavy throttle.

One thing I'm learning with this truck is, you have to get into the throttle more to make the transmission respond like the '01 automatics did. I like the program of the '01 better. But, too many owners complained that it hesitated to shift into O/D and a TSB was in order to corrected this "problem".

I am trying a couple of different ways to adjust it. The first time I just pulled out the cable released to white tab and said "oh, sh#T" well then I put it back together, and there is the slippage. I released it back and I was back to the old shift points again. I just marked that point and moved it up alittle. I will try the pedal to the floor idea and see how that works. I regret not getting the 48re now, but then again I never knew they were working on one.
