A friend is looking at two trucks both being 03's. One is an SO with a 47re loaded and very clean, the other is a HO with a 48re and not as nice as the other. I guess my question is , are the 48re that much more superior over the 47re? Both these trucks are dually's and he is looking at getting a 30ft ish 5th wheel down the road.

The truck with the 48RE will be a 305/555 HO engine and higher GCWR (I think). I would say that the additional power, stronger transmission, and increased towing capacity would be significant for towing a 30' 5er.

The 48RE is significantly stronger than the 47RE, but I would get the truck with the HO for the motor alone. Big difference, especially with the proposed trailer. Not sure about the GCWR being different.

Can't seem to find it, but...

I have a small DC brochure (somewherea) about the Cummins and Trans setups. DC says the TC is heavier duty/larger, the valve body is beefed up and some other stuff.

My wife put it in a safe place for me.
