Looking at swapping out the auto transmission in my '93 for a 47RH for dragracing, and I'm wondering what kind of options we've got for transfer cases. Here are my questions:

1. Is the Hummer 242HD tcase passenger or driver side front output?

2. Can we take a 241LD passenger drop out of a late '80's Chevy and swap 241HD internals in? Not sure what all differences there are between the LD and HD versions of this tcase...

3. How fast have you run with 4wd engaged on your 205? Being an older gear-driven tcase, I wonder if vibes will be worse at high speeds (100+)?

4. Anyone know what the weight difference is between a 205 and a 241HD?

Thanks!

Chris

I can't help you much with the first 3 questions.

#4 however is "ALOT". The 241hd I can pull by myself and install with out a jack. The 205 I am scared to death of, won't do it by myself, or without a jack. A 205 is very heavy.

1. Pretty sure it's driver's side drop

2. No, the case housings are different due to different width chains. Also, they are driver's side drop. The only right hand drop cases used in the 80s Chevy's are NP208s and NP205s.

3. I've run both a Ford and Dodge 205 up to 80MPH with no issues at all.

4. Over 100lbs

I thought the 241's in the Blazers/Subs were pass drop, and the truck ones were driver drop?

Thanks for all the info, guys. Anybody happen to know anything about the tcases in the new GM HD's (261's, I think?) ?

All IFS trucks are Driver's side drop. All solid axle trucks are passenger's side.

I've got a 91 Blazer that has a passenger side drop 241. The last full year for the 208 was '87. '88 Blazers had both the 208 and the 241. '89 to '91 had 241's. Everything after 91 was driver's side. I don't think the case is wide enough on the 241 in the blazer to handle the chain from the 241 HD, but I may be wrong.

give rick a call at A and A trans he can make that 518 do the job, he built the transmission in my truck.

How much power can the 518 be built to handle? Also, where is A and A Trans - is that here in Ohio?

Chris

Thanks for the info on the 241's, guys. I had hoped the bigger chain would fit, as that'd be my best option, I think. Guess I'll keep searching and see what else I can find. Thanks again!
