I have purchased an auto trans from Dave Goerand. I like it. The only thing I would like to improve is the way the shift points are controlled. I know that for the 47re thier are aftermarket controllers, are there any available for the 47rh? and is there another way to get some adjustablity from the tps, vss, pcm controlled 3,4 shift and tc lockup.

you can put in whats called a mystery switch which controls the TC lockup. run a search on mystery switch and you'll find what ya need.

You might try calling ATS. I have one of their Commanders on my 47RH. With it I can control at what speed I want the TC to lockup--from about 20 on up to 55+. I also am running one of their Stage IV transmission's with TripleLok, but the Commander will work on any trans I think. If you want to call them, their # is 800-949-6002 Won't hurt to ask.

Hi, i'm a dealer through Dave. He's a great guy. Which shifts are too low. Let me know, and then we can figure out how get the shifts exactly where you want them. Also, are they too low on hard excelleration or are they too low when just cruising through the gears, or both. Need to be real specific.

The shifts are not to low, They are a little late but I understand that the tps controls the 3,4 shift (the one in question) so I think I will start with a new tps (it has other probs as well)

But Dave is a great guy I would recomend him to any one. He has called me on sat morn to follow up on an issue we were working on. now thats customer service!!!!!!

If your shifts are a little late during normal acceleration, count your blessings. Mine shifts too soon and I either have to romp on it or lock out the TC to prevent engine shudder.

Talk to Dave first, I think a smart controller from DTT might do what you wont. Good luck jim

That's exactly what I was thinking.

i sent you a pm, but i was figuring your shifts were too soon. If they are too late, loosen the jam nuts on the shaft on the injection pump and twist the center adjust shaft so that it shortens the shaft. If you want it to shift later, then lengthen the shaft. When you finish, set the detent again. The detand is usually set by one person pushing all the way down on the throttle, and the other person pulling all the way on the detent, so that it is tight at full throttle. I don't think your TPS is bad becuase it would not want to shift into lock up and O/D at all and it would lock and unlock and it would go back and forth from 4-3 while cruising.

Reb. B,

What that does is the same thing as a kick down cable adjustment. The way to adjust the cable is described in the service manual. Pretty easy adjustment once you figure out what the manual is saying. Adjusting the kick down cable does not affect the TPS adjustment like changing the throttle rod length does.

Joe, u are confusing me. Lengthening and shortnening the rod adjusts the tps AND the kick down. Thats why you adjust the rod to where you want the tps at, then you adjust the kick down after rod adjustment is done.

Reb. B,

My 47RH shifts too soon during normal acceleration.

If I am reading right, you are saying I can adjust the throttle rod to change the TPS setting to get later shifts then re-adjust the cable to the transmisson for kick down.

How will this affect full throttle shifting?

Under heavy throttle, it shifts fine but I am not happy with the "chugging" going on when it shifts too soon at lower rpm.

Howard

Okay Howard, u have a different problem. Here we go, ... if you are not happy with the shifts going through the forward gears at wide open throttle , except O/D and lock up, then you adjust the kick down/detent cable at the pump. If want to adjust o/d and lock up, then you adjust the rod, then adjust the cable to corect the first three forward gears. Ok, here comes your question, if you like o/d and lock up, and you like the first three forward gears on wide open throttle, but it shifts too fast at medium to light throttle then you need to adjust the MINIMUM Detent. This is located in the valve body. When you pull the pan, you will see two allen head adjusters. One has a small plate pushing a spring, this is you Govenor Pressure. Govenor pressure makes harder shifts. You shouldn't need to adjust this. The other allen head adjust, adjusts your Minimum Detent. You need to turn this in. I need to look at a valve body again to remember where to meassure, but they say 6mm is the messurement. I go 7mm on a truck with stock injectors, and 8 mm on a truck with 370's or more. Remember when you have bigger injectors, it takes less throttle to move you down the road, which in turn pulls less on the dent cable. So, Howard, what you need to do is turn in the Minimum detent. I'll get a valve body outside and let you know where to meassure.

Reb. B,

Thanks for the information. I have a manual and have read the procedure for making the stock settings.

I know the pressure adjusting screw is left hand thread. Is the detent screw the same or is it right hand?

I have replaced the original 160 injectors with 215's so maybe I'll try a little over 7mm on the screw.

As soon as I get a chance to drop the pan, I'll give it a try.

The early shift into OD is not really a problem but the shift to lockup is. Especially when towing the trailer.

I have my own version of the mystery switch that I use to keep the TC from locking but would rather not have to do that.
