so my 48re is giving me problems and so im left with take it to a dealer and have it repaired stock, take it some place i Dont know and have it modifide to take more abuse, swap it out with a stick ( dont even know if u can) or sell the entire freaking truck and get me a good ol fashioned 12 valve... ... ... ... ... ... ... . any suggestions?

I cant drive as it is and I dont know where a good trani shop is that knows how to build for a cummins..... my zip is 30540 GA if U guys know anyone that would be awesome... ... ... ... ... . :{

Call Dave Goerend. He'll talk you through your options and will build you a terrific trans. Goerend Transmission Incorporated
My trans was slipping horribly at 35,000 miles (still stock and under warranty). I knew I wasn't going to be stock for long, so I ponied up for a fully beefed up trans. Never heard a bad word about Dave, and after meeting him and having him do my trans, I understand why. Great guy/company.

There is a really good shop that specializes in performance and diesels in Griffin GA, Garmons diesel. There are some relatively cheap and effective things you can do to help the trans handle the power better and longer.

If its not totally trashed it can be helped. Maybe describing the problems you are having will help narrow it down a bit. ;)

thx guys thats a big help... here is what it is doing nad history

Truck just hit 100k and has had a pretty ez life, smarty for the last 40k usually set on #3 nothing crazy n slightly larger then stock tires(still look wayyyy to small on the truck lol ) has been serviced @ a Dodge dealership every 30k or sooner... ...

So the trani DOES NOT SLIP! rather it lurches @ low low speed like idleing accross a parking lot. If i take of to hard it will not up shift, until i let of and or feather the throttle. is worse going up hills. But once it is in high gear it does not slip no matter what i do. seemed to get worse after i brought in the have the Recall on my computer and they reflashed it, also started gear hunting @ low speeds ( 15-20 mh) after that... ... .

ok i just re-read what i just posted, and i realize it is very incoherient and mispelled... sorry chalk it up to me being all emotional about my baby being broke down ...

Classic gov solenoid\transducer problem, really easy fix if your have the basic tools. These 2 pieces have a useful life of about 40k then you get the problems you describe plus others.

If, big IF, you have not gone above SW3 and cranked up the TQ management and always driven carefully there is probably no problems that can't be cured with some simple parts swaps.

Smarty on SW3 and TM 3 will eat the direct clutches and the lockup clutch if your not careful. If you haven't been towing heavy and rodding it hard it will take a while but it will hurt it. Good news is a few cheap fixes and you can run up to SW6 or so and play pretty hard if desired.

You NEED a shift kit ASAP, or your wasting your time. Stock trans is good for stock power, when you add more you need parts. Upgrade the front servo, front band linkage, and add an aftermarket gov solenoid and your good for mild power upgrades and playing.

From the sounds of it you just need a little applied maintenace and upgrades and it and you will be happy. :)

Need to know what your truck and config is. Select the User Control Panel on the Discussion Forums menu item at the top of the page. In Settings and Options on the left hand side select Edit Signature and fill in the box with Year, model, mods, etc. Save it an your done. :)

not trying to hi-jack the thread but does anyone know a good transmission guy in oklahoma or within close proximity. I totally believe everything i've heard about Dave Goerrend and i can't wait to get a fully built transmission from him someday when i can afford it but that time is not right now. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

I have the Garmon converter with multiple clutches and am happy with it. The only issue that I have is when it's cold and first start it, I need to put the trany in neutral for a couple of seconds or it starts off sluggish. The rest of the day is fine. Fluids are OK so I deal with it. This was happening before Garmon did their thing.
