I guess this must be an uncommon failure as I couldn't find any advice or tips searching the forum and Haynes Manual doesn't address it.
I had my Transmission routine serviced at the local dealer 29 Oct 11, 70K miles. It had been leaking a little.
Recently have noticed the Transmission Pan covered with Fluid and topped it off once (level was at the low end of the hash marks).
Parked in the Driveway last week to wash my RAM (yes, we got rain afterwards which was the other objective
) and noticed it left a 10" wide stain on the cement.
Took back to local dealer and they had to order the PRNDL 56045489 SWITCH NUET and perhaps the bracket/gasket (?) 56049014. Paid $65 for those parts, 4 Quarts of Fluid and $196 of Labor. This was done at 77K miles.
Just a random failure? Gasket only? Or is the Switch Electromechanical and might have been failing (albeit the truck still drove fine)?
Or am I aging out my 2005 RAM versus wearing it out???
Anyone have any advice regarding this problem and solution?
