Is there a way to fix this problem ( its a problem to me ). I had a good load on a trailer and tried to back up hill it wasnt Mt Everest or any thing. It seemed like I had to put a lot of foot to it to make it move in reverse up hill. Is this the norm? I pulled around and backed the trailer on level ground and had NO problems at all. I dont make a habit out of backing up hill but there are occasions that it would be nice to do it with out possible injury to the trans.

Low range if you have a 4x4, otherwise always drive forward. ;)

Reverse is a pretty high ratio and a totally abnormal condition in the trans that robs a lot of power. Its pretty normal trying to back a load up any grade, the steeper it is the worse it gets.

what type of brakes on the trailer? electric, hydraulic/ surge, or electric/ hydraulic?? if surge, there`s a pin to lock out the action while backing. if electric unplug them and see if that makes a diff. most auto trans have a weak reverse system and take a lot of throttle to move a heavy load uphill. if these tests do not solve your problem, I`m all guessed out !!! LOL!!

Trailer has oversized elect. brakes dont think brakes are the problem. But as cerberusiam posted just a part of the truck with AT. Ill just not use it for loads like Ive been hauling with it and BIG TEX 30 ft gooseneck at least not in reverse going up hills of any kind. Forward the truck still amazing to me the weight it will haul in stock HP and trans.

Yeah, reverse is just problematic. I have spun linings off the reverse bands in these units trying to back heavy weights. Definitely take care when doing that.

I have found out that Im not going to have to get rid of my Inter Trash Ional 4700 DT 466 Have found a loop hole (politicians aren't the only one's) that will let me keep it and I wont have to install an AFTERBURNNER on the exhaust. So I will relegate the Dodge to pulling my big butt and the TT. And let the 4700 do the ranch work. But I still dont like the backing issue on the Dodge
