Is there really any difference, other than the name?

When I push my "Tow/Haul" button, all it seems to do is lock out overdrive. It still locks up in 2nd & 3rd.

Just curious, don't mean to hijack the thread.

jpdowdle,

If you go to any dealer and give them your VIN number, they can give you a printout that will tell you exactly how your truck was built.

BobHall - the GM "Tow/Haul" feature changes the shift points if "requested" by a switch while the 48RE does it automatically under computer control.

DC just changed the "name" of the OD Lockout button.

[I think I've only used mine twice when not decellerating. ;) ]

I kinda figured it was just a name change.

I'll sometimes use mine to decellerate coming off the highway.

In city driving (under 45-ish), I seem to get better fuel mileage by hitting the "tow/haul" button to keep it from going into OD. The only problem with that is that it also makes it a whole lot more fun to mash the skinny pedal. There goes the mileage! :D

BobHaul, I thought I was seeing things. I seemed to get better mileage around town with the Tow/Haul on locking out the OD. The OD doesn't seem to be effective when doing local driving. Maybe I'll leave it on a while and see how the mileage does. Right now it SUCKS! About 14 MPG city driving. My 2002 6 speed and 1997 auto transmission got 17 MPG constantly. I am lucky to get 17 MPG on the freeways. I sure hope it get WAY better.

If I remember correctly, all SO's had the 47RE

Hey dude! Long time no see!

Remember me? Lol, how could you forget :D

You should have the 48RE, just the OD off label instead of the tow/haul label.

(finally broke down and got rid of "Thunder" bought an 04. 5 with an auto this time!) So you didn't like the 6-speed?
