I spoke at great lengths with well known diesel engine/transmission shop in middle GA last week about beefing up my 06' 48re. He indicated that the newer 48re was a good transmission and for towing all I needed was a quality aftermarket TC and that he would rebuild my valve body.

Any thoughts

How many miles do you have? I just tuned 50k and mine still shifts just like when it was new, I have changed the fluid twice so far and have a deep pan on it.

Was this guy south of Atlanta on I75? If so a friend talked to him about his 2003 HO 48re when it had about 25K on it. He just recommended a valve body mod since he was only towing 14K and planned to keep the HO stock.

We drove a new at the time 05 he had just modified and it was something else, but a customer's 500hp+ 12V 5 speed scared the h out of us!

It's what I've got - along with a beefed up band apply lever, but any reputable shop should give you one with a VB.

Most of the other weak points were addressed when they built them for the E-brakes.
