Ive got a ton of money invested in 48re's different trucks several times, several different companies. Im still paying off the credit card from last summer's rebuild. guess what time its coming to? I dont want to throw money out the window anymore. I want to buy a core, parts, tooling to do it right, and put it on a transmission dyno. wheres a good source for performance rebuild info on 48re's?

Its either this or 48re to g56 this truck too.

What about putting an old TH400 behind the cummins? I have seen an adapter for it. I would imagine that with the conversion and a GV O/U a guy would have a strong and reliable system that really wouldn't cost as much.

Just a thought.

Just curious why GM didn't put TH400 in their trucks instead of the Allison. The 48RE is a good transmission, and has it’s weak points when you start adding more torque.

They sort of did... it was called the TH4L80E. My comment earlier was with regards to a modified and upgraded transmision that is strong, upgraded and cost affordable. Along with an external overdrive. Then instead of having to spend thousands on 1 component each time you get into it you can replace one item or the other.

put a th 400 behind our cummins, you gotta be kidding me, th 400's are for drag cars running gasser engines. besides the 727 was always a better trans than the th400, just ask a transmission shop, the 4l80e is based on the th 400 the 48re is based on the 727. I don't think the 4l80e is that great of a transmission.

if you want a real trans, just call DTT they can build your 48re to take whatever you can throw at it.

In a word. DTT. Well I guess thats really three words. Check them out. Lots of satisfied customers.
