Hey guys, you can see what i got in my sig. I've got almost 28k on it now. I do not pull anything as of now, it's just a daily driver. In you guy's opinion, how often should I be changing my transmission fluid? When I do my first change I'd like to use the amsoil fluid. Any thoughts on that are appreciated as well.

Thanks

Eric

Severe service calls for 20k intervals. Regular service calls for 50k intervals. But I don't see the harm in doing it every 20k, you can catch problems sooner that way. It's all in the owners manual BTW.

Thanks for the info. What fluid are you guys using? I've heard that amsoil is some of the best for the transmission, but thought i'd ask you guys as I know ya'll will give me info from firsthand experience. I know what the manual says about change intervals, but i'd rather hear it from you guys. The manual also says you should change your engine oil every 7,500 miles but I think that is a little too far for my taste.

Can't speak too much to the transmission fluid. I had a transmission, xfer case, and diff service done by the dealer at 60K. Like you, I don't tow a lot and I have 93K on it now with no problems and no shavings on the magnet. I wouldn't think that the type of transmission fluid would matter as long as it meets or exceeds ATF+4. But I will admit that I'm no expert on that either. As for the oil change interval, I had the same question when I first got my '03 as well. A tech at Fleetguard (a. k. a. Cummins Filtration) recommended an oil and filter (preferably a StrataPore) every 6K no matter what your driving habits are and a fuel filter change every other oil change. I follow that religiously along with Fleetguard StrataPore filters and Valvoline Premium Blue 15W-40 oil on both my '03 and my wife's '04 2500. Both run really well and haven't had any problems.
