New 1/4 Time with TC/Trans upgrades

Just picked up my truck, had the TC and Transmission upgraded. I am all :D .

Researched every post and company out there for six months trying to decide what direction to go. I am in my third childhood and want to play at the drag strip again. I finally decided to let Michael at www.hotroddiesels.com do the upgrades. He convinced me that there are options besides the big three.

Summary of upgrades:

Dunrite Triple Disc Converter(Custom Ordered for specific HP/Stall)

Billet Input, Intermediate and Output Shafts

Dunrite Master Transmission Rebuild Kit

Pulled transmission completely down

Added clutch disc to each clutch pack

Custom machined each part to exact specification

Michael spent a lot of time with Piers and Tony at Dunrite and came up with some new ideas of his own. I couldn't explain them all correctly if I tried, he lost me after the first 20 minutes or so pointing out each one.

If I drive my age the truck shifts and drives smooth as silk, feels like stock without the mushy TC.

Today was the first time I had the balls to launch in 4wd with about 15lbs of boost. I can not explain the difference, but I am still smiling. It is just awesome. I am at about 425-450rwhp now. Even that meager HP is awesome when you can actually put it on the ground. I do plan to get to 550+rwhp as soon as the pocket book recovers. The TC/Trans should hold 650-700hp I am told.

Just thought I would let every one know there are other very good options out there for TC/Trans upgrades. If you are in the Houston area I highly recommend Michael at Hot Rod Diesels for any performance work on your Cummins.

The cost of Billet shafts is very pricey. Like gold they seem to be priced by the ounce.

The Banks exhaust just adds ss mandrel bent pipe and ss high flow muffler and tip. Could have got the same result with just high flow muffler and pretty 5" tip.

Transmission Upgrades

Thanks John for the kind words.

If you’re looking to have transmission work done I recommend using a local shop so you can get the personal service that you deserve. We local shops can’t always offer cheaper prices but it’s hard to beat our service and attention. We don’t ship transmissions because it’s the setup that makes the difference. You can’t make it right if it isn’t in the truck as each truck has different needs and each driver has different wants.

Feel free to call and talk about what you want and I will do my best to see you have a good experience at HotRodDiesels.

Michael

This is exactly the kind of posts I have been looking for. I had the chance to go down and meet Tony and see his werehouse. I liked his product ideas but there was ZERO feed back from TDR members. Also, I wasn't sure what shop to use. I may be wrong but I think Rip is starting to do trannies with Dunerite converters, but what about the rest of the trans? I too am looking for the "right" setup for me.

MDW: Why do you run DTT and 5 spds?

I'm using a combination of PDR & Dunrite parts.

PDR billet shafts.

Dunrite Converters & Valve bodys.

I switched from DTT to Dunrite for business purposes only.

DTT already had installers in the area that do an excellent job so Bill couldn't send me any referrals. It was a business decision only as DTT trans. has served me well in the past.

Chris Strickland at Relentless Diesel is a great person and great installer as is James Northrup sp*.

What about a guy like me who just doesn't like the mushy convertor, would just doing the convertor make a big difference on a stock truck? Do I need the valve body too? Just going back to the "we don't ship transmissions" comment. I can understand that but how about shipping out a convertor? Just looking for some feedback.

At this point I'm not going to ship complete transmissions because without the "setup" who knows if it will survive.

As far as shipping converters, I can do that but who would warranty it without doing the valve body to insure the pressure is there to hold it?

HotRodDiesels is about "service". We are here to make customers happy, which involves making it "right". I can't do that unless it’s in my shop. I am trying to make money but that is my second concern. The customer is my first, if I make my customers happy then the rest will take care of itself.

Thanks, that is pretty much what I was looking for.
