I learned of the reported 48re rear ring/planetary gear thrust washer

lubrication concern via this forum. However, most of the info appears to

be 5 or 6 month's old and from Bill Kondolays post on the DTT website

dated Feb 2004. I tried to search this forum yesterday to see if there are any new developments regarding this subject but I guess the new server software hasn't caught up yet, since I get zero results.

Anyway, I'm trying to find out if anyone has has heard of an actual failure

due to this reported problem, and if there is any recent info available.

I have a 2004. 5 600 with the 48re, hauling a 2000 pound camper. Pretty

lightweight compared to a lot of you guys but I do go into places where

the walk out is way more than I want to undertake. I don't have 5000

miles on it yet, so it will be a while before I put out the bucks for a DTT

built transmission. Any recent info will be appreciated.

I would also like to thank all the experienced people that take the time to

read and post on this website. This is my first diesel and this website sure

makes it a lot easier to find the info I need to know.

Your concern should be directed to those in the know. Call the after market builders, I'm sure they won't mind, and ask. Peace of mind will give you and your truck many miles of worry free driving... ... Welcome to the TDR!
