Well I've done my research and see that the 48RE should be able to take up to 100hp max without having to beef it up ASAP.

I'm only running a 65hp Quad XZT so I'm well below what it will take, but what about launching?

Is flooring this thing from a stop going to murder it? What do ya'll do for some safe light to light fun with friends?

Just looking for a little insurance or words of caution. I had a modded Hemi with the 545RFE previously which I could just floor all over the place but the CTD shifts much harder (just the nature of it stock) so I'm wondering if I need to worry or not.

As for boost launching I realize this is pretty much a no-no as I understand it so I don't do it.

Thanks for the help. I found tons of posts on how much power it will take but little on the driving style it could take.

I would not worry about hurting it either flooring it off the line or holding it with the brakes to build boost, I have tried it both ways, holding the brakes till it reaches about 10lbs of boost and then letting of the brake, it does not seem to make a big difference either way in 0-60 times, it spools up to full boost very fast without the brake.

The 48re has beefy internals, but it doesn. t shift correctly(too slow) with 100hp added to a 600/610 truck. You will see a significant et reduction using an upgraded trans. I can run a 2. 1sec 60 ft with a mild 05 but the ET is embarassing the way it shifts under power.

Bob, you are spot on with that post. For that reason, I am salivating at upgrading my trans to a full DTT setup.

I am just awed with my current stack of TST and BDDP when the converter locks after shifting into O/D. It is like the speedo is a tach when accelerating from 60-80 mph.

I know that it will be that much more awesome when I add a tighter torque converter. . :p

Cheers!

Actually the trans is not capable of holding an additional 100 HP for very long. The 48RE is torque managed to about 575 ft/lb of torque to make the trans last. Anything above that is just shortening the life of the box.

One tip is to not just floor it from idle. This will cause the convertor to "flash" to a higher rpm and IMO is a less efficient way to get rolling. Try a part throttle roll from the light before you punch it and the convertor shouldn't hit its peak rpm and the transfer of power should be better. Also the current TDR suggests that you are already at the maximum reccomended power for a stock trans and the stock turbo. From 65hp on up, you have to really open your wallet :{ You can probably run reliably up to 100hp on just a convertor and valve body change, beyond that, buy the whole $3500 transmission. Or, just keep pushing it now and when it lets go, you have an excuse to spend the money on the full blown transmission :-laf

Matt 400, does tow haul change shift point on the 05? My 04. 5 does not, dropping the lever into 2nd changes the 1st to 2nd shift (winds out first gear a little more) but tow haul only locks out o. d.

Hrmmm, can't say for sure but the reason I said to try Tow/haul is because I notice lock up comes in sooner and stays on longer. I feel the shifts are more firm also, maybe its in my head.

On the 05 Tow/haul does not lock out o/d.
