While towing my 5th wheel I had the following:
Combined weight: approx 21000
Accelerating uphill
Accelerator at or near full throttle
Overdrive switch in "OD/Off"
-The vehicle accelerates normally to approx 41 mph/3100 rpm
-transmission then either shifts to a higher gear or locks out the TC (not sure which)
-RPM drops to approx 2600 rpm
-transmission then either downshifts or unlocks the TC
-RPM goes to 3100-3200 rpm
-It then continues to cycle between gears with rpm down to 2600, up to 3100 over and over until I let up on the accelerator.
It seems to me like the it accelerates normally, gets to near the upper rpm limit, upshifts and the computer says "no, I need to go to a lower gear", jumps to a lower gear and says, "I'm at the rpm limit and need to shift to a higher gear. " It gets stuck in this loop.
The question is: Is this normal for this transmission? Should I have the transmission checked out at my friendly Dodge dealer?
Thanks,
Doug
