48re transmission stuck in 1st and 2nd gears!?

Did some welding on the truck and disconnected the neg. terminals. Went to leave about 20 min later and the gear indicator on the dash wont light up around R D 2 1 but will around P and N. It will light up around them when ignition is turned forward one notch to the acc. but not in the run position. Reverse is ok but drive starts out in 2nd, wont shift up and u hafta put it into 1st on the column and play with the throttle then hammer it to jump down.

Hum? Interesting ... Disconnect the Positive. Let it sit for a few minutes. BTW, where did you weld?

did disconnect the pos for about 5 min. welded on a 4" pipe i put in place of the muffler and had the welder ground on the end of the tailpipe.
