My buddy that I converted from being a die hard Ford guy recently bought a new 03 HO the day after labor day. He told me today that it has slipped three times in the past two days. When he goes to take off from a stop it revs up a little then catches and jumps slightly.

Has anyone had any issues with these? I thought they had most of the bugs worked out on the new version. He is very easy on his trucks and takes better care of them than some people do their children. I don't think he has done anything to abuse it.

P. s. just so you know, I am not sure if he has taken the time to check the fluid. I am afraid I would insult him if I ask him if he checked it. :D

Mine does this too. I'm waiting for a TSB to come out before I take it in. What happens is when I go to take off, if for whatever reason I let off the throttle alittle as it's fixing to go into 2nd, it'll shift to second and then within the same shift it'll go to third. It feels like it's slipping but it's not. It's getting a double shift. If there was a delay it wouldn't be noticable. The first time mine did this I was alittle more than concerned but I've since figured out what it's doing. Dealer said to disconnect the battery cables for about 20 minutes or seconds. I don't remember which but it'll reset it to it's default settings. Then give a few full throttle launches up to highway speed when it's safe to do so. I haven't tried it yet but it's worth a try. Mine's a 47RE but the program is very similar in the '03. I don't care much for these new trannies that learn as you drive but they all have it anymore. I have been giving mine some spirited launches lately and it does seem better. Also, it's never missed a shift while towing our 5th wheel. It's like it's happiest when it's working hard...

The programing for the 48RE is alot different than the 47RE. Depending on your build date, they have an update for this transmission. I'm not sure of any dates but this is what my dealer told me [their really good on their info] Mine was shifting funny so they put in a new PCM and all is fine now.

The programming for the '01 is alot different than the '03 47RE. The '03 47RE keeps the TC locked when you let off the throttle in 3rd or O/D down to about 1100rpm. It has a different valve body and seperator plate than the '01, and shift points are different. I read up on a drove both. The 47RE in my '03 feels totally different than the '01 I traded. I feels very similar to the 48RE. They are the same transmission with the 48RE having 6 planetaries instead of 5 in mine and one more disc in the clutch packs and a heavier input shaft etc... But they are both built in a 727 case with the O/D unit bolted to the rear. And the program is very similar. As is the 1-2 upshift glitch.

I should have stated 03's compared to previous. Mine had that wierd 1-2 shift glitch but after they changed the PCM it has gone away, for now.
