I'm getting the itch to trade again. My question is, has the 48re been out long enough for anyone to give an educated opinion on its reliability.

I currently have a '02 4x4 with a 5 speed. I would of liked to have plowed snow last winter but I didn't like the idea of riding the clutch all day. I also haul my lawn equipment and I'am currently thinking of buying a 14 to 16 foot dump trailer to haul mulch and wood chips to local stables.

Don't get me wrong, I like the 5 speed but if I invest in a plow, I think the auto would be better suited, at least as far as leg fatigue.

Thanks in advance.

I have the 48re and it feels like a stout unit. Shifts are firm and seem to be timed better than shifts from my previuos 47re. I plow snow and tow a landscape trailer and I feel this transmission will be fine for both.

Realistically, only time will tell on the 48RE. It has been in service only about 4 months. So far, so good. I like everything about mine, pulling a #10,000 trailer or running empty. Either way, it is a solid preforming transmission and I personally (sticking my neck out) have a good feeling about its longevity.
