4BT in a Dakota!

Now Whats Next?

I don't get to this section too often, and the search is down so forgive me if this topic has been covered.

I was pondering this swap using a '95 and older dakota 2wd to create a fuel miserly pickup. Has it been done?

It sure has... . do a simple search using any search engine.....

"Dakota Cummins" or something like that.....

I found a site with pics and everything..... looked like a sweet setup... .

Jeff Garmon at Southern Truck Parts has a 5. 9 12 valve in a 2wd Dakota. It has about 370 hourse to the ground, an HX 40 and no Intercooler. Now get this... . he gets 30. 5 MPG. And that's with playing. I have no idea how much more a 3. 9 would get. However, while there, we discussed the 3. 9, apparently, it shakes like a monster at anything below 1300 RPM or so. I don't know if this can be fixed by the motor mounts, a different balancer or what. Just thought I'd give a lil' heads up.

Thanks Guys! I was just wondering. I've seen this engine run in a Case backhoe and it looked okay. I guess these are tightly mounted. If I ever get a chance to get any pieces to the project cheaply, I'll look into it further.

4BT's can be had with transmission for around $1000, I've seen a few for even less than that... .

Old potato chip trucks/bread trucks used these engines for quite a # of years... . so, if you look around you are sure to find 'em. It took me a while to find 'em at first... but now I know where to get plenty of 'em.
