Paging Andy Perreault

Hello,

I was having a closer look to my 4BT engine (which is sitting in my garage and waiting to go into my M715) and I noticed that the turbo sits at the rear of the exhaust manifold, with the exhaust exiting the turbo to the rear. I wanted to mount the engine as far back as I could, and this is going to require moving the engine forward to give some space for the exhaust.

My question is, is there another 4BT exhaust manifold that places the turbo farther forward?

Thanks,

Mikel

mikel, mine is connected to a nv4500 and the stick comes through the original hole. how far back do you want to move it?

Lee,

The idea is that in the unlikely case I ever decide to go with a 6BT some day, I won't have to move the transmission, transfer case and modifiy the driveshats.

Mikel

well you would have to redo the motor mounts afaik, as the 4bt mounts are not that good when used with a 6bt. also the 6bt will require a 3" body lift or spring over axle conversion.

It sounds like you might not have a bread truck style engine. If the turbo is sitting above the manifold, then I suggest you get a new manifold, as they can't be flipped. Was your engine orginally used in a forklift or a generator?

The problem with flipping that manifold is that the turbo would sit a few inches higher than the valve covers, and I don't have that much room under the hood.

I have been looking at 6BT manifolds :D

Get some thick wall rectangular tube. Weld up the ends Cut port holes in it and thread holes for your turbo. Have it surfaced. I've seen it on Detriot diesels. Just an idea.
