hx35 turbo, vs hy35

Has this been attempted? I would like to have a 4BT in a toyota 4dr like they have every where in the world but here. A late 80's or early 90's.

I drove a 2lt 4x4 for years. It did not have a lot of power but it save me a lot of money... I finally gave it away. I have thought that a land cruiser would be the way to go. good luck jim

I've had thoughts of a 4bt in my 93 yota pickup for three years now... I'd def. have to do a solid axle swap (as would you if you found an IFS truck) and it would be tight height wise, probably require at least a 3" body lift, possibly a hood scoop of some sort too. Let me know if you find anything else out.

Pat Sullavan just installed a 01 24v 6sp in a 85 toy long bed.

He used dana 80/60 with 38s and full disks. Should be cool. He had to run the radiator in the bed and as of now there is no air/air but he has a air/water that might fit. I will post some pic as soon as I get down there. He also has a fj40 with a first gen 12v and a 727 that he mud bogs with.

I want to put a 4bt/nv4500 in my '72 fj40. Will be using dana44 up front and a corporate 14 bolt out back with dual transfer cases.

ill let you know after june 14th how my truck does offroad. you may not need a doubler. my buddy with the m37 and 4bt uses 4hi 2nd or 3rd gear, where he used to use 4wd low... ... . his buddies have 350's and such and they use low range and skinny pedal ALOT. he says he literally idles his everywhere... .

I have found that low range is practically useless in mine. I can't imagine you needing a doubler unless you are running some ridiculously high gears in the diffs. I have had mine in low range a couple of times and the main problem I have is the brakes will barely keep it from moving. It's got an automatic.

"I want to put a 4bt/nv4500 in my '72 fj40"

Me too. It's been done - there's even a few FJ40s and FJ55s running with 6bt (5. 9 six cylinder) engines in them. The six is only one+ inch longer and two to three deeper than the original Toyota 'F' and '2F'.

This is my newest interest as I've just gotten two FJ40s - one a stock '65 and the other a '72 with a chevy 350 in it that may not run (I towed it up here from LA and only got it home yesterday).

Tcolesanti, you're in Ventura so you must know that Specter has used Nissan SB33s with trans and transfer case for $3000. in stock now? It's a pretty strong six cylinder turbodiesel and will fit. The only thing is that there isn't much info on boosting their low power.

krs,

Over at the "Binder Bulletin" an IH Scout site, they have a conversion forum also. Quite a few of the guys there are swapping to Cummins.

My friend has a scout 800 with a 4bt, np435 np 203/205 tcases and 513's in the diff. It is awesome in the rocks. the second t case isn't really needed but helps in the super technical rock sections when you need the time to figure out the correct line on an obstacle. The thing only stalls if you have it in too high of a gear. My advice do the two cases if your really into rock crawling,or make it easy on yourself if you only crawl once in awile, they still have gobs of torque down low. Most rock crawlers thumb their nose at Scouts but everyone gives it the thumbs up for the big blue "C" on the fender. I'm currently putting a 4bt in a 1936 IH truck to make a rock crawler out of it. It is almost done. I'd like to thank everyone who tried to help with my fuel problem on my 4b . I will have it going in a few weeks (I hope)

I'm thinking of a 6. 2 GM diesel for this new to me FJ40. It's a good sb 350 installation with Toyota 4 sp and aAdvanced bellhousing but it threw a rod.

Does anyone know whether exhaust ports match up between the small block gassers and the 6. 2 diesel? This Toyota has custom headers that were built to go OVER the power steering column and I'd like to keep them.

They do not.

The 6. 2’s are closer to the BBC in size/weight but that is it. The 6. 2 will be a tight fit but it has been done.
