Anyone ever put a 4BT into an older 2wd Ford? (1979)

1970 ford getting the cummins

how reasonable is it to look into? seems it wouldnt be that bad of a fit. . anybody done this swap? the truck has a v6 with a 4 speed w/OD manual transmission. would the rear end be strong enough to hold up to the torque of the 4bt?

The 4bt into a 93 chevy swap is pretty straight forward. I just finished my 89 4x4 last week. The only major mod I had to do was reshape the oil pan to fit beside the differential. My truck had the 350 in it with the same 5-speed. So far so good. I took it to a show in Springfield ,MO this last weekend. It is 4 1/2 hours one way. First tank averaged 27. 5 MPG. -Nicholas

how long did the swap take you? what all would bolt up transmission wise; could i use my stock one? also the truck is a single cab. what springs could i use that would support the added weight?

I worked on it for probably 4 days straight. I used the flywheel and clutch from the donor. The transmission had the same splines, and bolted right to my chevy adapter also from the donor. The only mod there was that I had to make a longer push rod for the clutch, and grind out the adapter to allow the slave cylinder to fit. On the top bolt, I cut out the side of the bolt hole on the transmision, so I could slide it in from the side.

As far as the springs, try it and see how it does. If it sags too much, you could use springs from a 454 SS truck. -Nicholas
