I am considering doing a project in the near future. I have a 1995 Ford F-150 4x4, 5-spd. manual, 300 inline-six gasser. It has around 191,000 miles on it right now, and I am considering installing a 4BTA3. 9 Cummins. Do you think that the 4-cylinder Cummins would have enough power for my truck? I know the rated torque on the Cummins is greater that the engine I have in there right now, but the rated horsepower is lower. I was thinking about going with a later 4BTA, something like a CPL#1839, which I think is an air-to-air aftercooled 130hp setup with the inline pump. I saw an earlier 4BT engine with the rotary pump in a Jeep at the Scheid Diesel Extravanza last year, (which was a pretty sweet setup!!). I think that with this 4-cylinder in my truck, I could get pretty decent mileage, at least I hope. Currently, the best I've gotten with the current setup is around 17mpg. I wouldn't be using this truck to pull very much. I just mainly use it as a daily-driver to go back and forth to work. The most I probably might ever pull with it is a 16-ft. Hillsboro bumper hitch stocktrailer.
