4GSK/Valve Springs/Fuel Plate/Injectors Instal? how hard?

Hey all- Pretty much just what the title says. I am going down to Haisleys to pick up my engine in 2 weeks with my brother (in his 97 5-speed truck) he is getting a Street-Puller and imput shaft installed when we are there for him! He then thought about getting some pump work done seeing the truck is stock right now other than his HTB2/64 and HTT exaust manifold.

He is wanting to get a 4gsk put into the pump as well as the valve springs and also do 370 injectors and the fuel plate. My question is how hard is installing all this stuff ourselves? I have all the tools but no time for the next few months!!! Or would I be best just to pay for them to do the install. Total instal is just over $800 which is what they charge for a full days work (oh... that was with guages to and instal) I look at it this way... it will be done right! I have no real time to help him because of my own project!

What do you all think? Thanks... Ryan

The fuel plate and 370s are an incredibly easy job. The valve springs and governor springs are a bit tougher when doing the install with the motor in the truck IMO. But still very doable. If you dont have the time, then you dont have the time. Might as well have a real professional shop do the work, since you will be there. None of those 4 mods are really very hard to do, just a bit time consuming. Sounds like you might as well just have them do it all. IF you can find one day to do it in, it will easily be doable if you have all the right tools.

yeah I was thinking along time same lines! I have always been one to do my own stuff and I think thats why I am having a problem decieding on having them do the job. I think it might be best though and also have them time it for me. Anyway, Thanks for the help again. Actually FordCummins... any idea what kind of power you are putting out with your setup... his is pretty much the same.

Gauges, injectors and valve springs are super easy, a 1 out of a 10 on difficulty. I don't know about the cam plate, but FC said its easy too. Was that $800:eek: just labor?? If he's got lots of money, then by all means. I understand the no time issue. But that's alot of money IMO, if just for labor. Now if it includes, gauges, valve springs, plate and injectors then thats a little better.

That was just for the labour. He was also getting the titaniam keepers for it. Yeah I know its alot of money but they said that its a whole days work just to do it. Only takes that 5 hours to do the whole clutch/imput shaft job! I am thinking about just waiting and doing this on my own now!

How hard is the GSK to change? I am worried about dropping something into the pump.

Ryan B,

The gsk's are not that bad from the top, even easier from the side (remove the fuel shut-off solenoid and then the round plug in the side of the governor housing). Just make sure and have a good small magnet and flashlight.

thanks for all the help guys... I hav all the tools... just not much time with my own project and planning my wedding for June 17th! How much time do you think it would take to instal all the goodies???

If its the first time doing everything, Id plan on taking basically the whole day. Taking your time will pay off, especially when working around an open injection pump. Im not sure how much power Im putting down, I have been told by Piers, BD Power and Scheid that I should be around 400hp, but I cant confirm this until I dyno it, which will hopefully be soon. It does get hot when I mat the pedal through 3rd and 4th and up into OD.
