I recently installed the smaller springs needed to turn my 3K into a 4K gsk and was wondering about the amount of clicks needed to set them up.

When I removed the lock, I counted the clicks and had 6 on one set of springs and 1 click on the other set of springs. Put the locks back the same way, 6 clicks on the one side and 1 click on the other. All these click are past the intial click to lock the keeper. It idles fine, very close to the same as before, maybe 50-100 RPM +/- but right at about 800.

What I am curious about is, would it be to any benefit if I fiddled with it some more and took say 3 clicks out of the set of springs that took 6 clicks of pre-load and added 2 to the one that took 1 click of pre-load to make them the same with 3 clicks of pre-load on each set of springs? Or is the best way to set it up by the idle conditions, like too high of idle back some clicks out, too low idle, put some more in. Basically just wondering what benefit if any to the amount of pre-load on the spring sets.

Obviously the best way to try it is trial and error but I figured I would ask here first rather than making large oil messes on the ground by removing the plug on the side each time for an adjustment.

Thanks, Joe

Well, I pretty much figured it out on my own. I took all the springs out of each set and found that I still had shims inside at the bottom of the largest spring, the one that stays in with the kit. Those darn things sure are stubborn sometimes even with a magnet. Oil makes 'em stick good.

Anyway, I ended up putting the same amount of clicks in after my set-up, took some serious, lengthly trial and error but I ended up with 8 full clicks on each set of springs to get the idle right @ 800RPM. Couldn't believe how many clicks it took and how little just one click affected the idle.

Just wanted to fill you guys in on my findings and what I did to solve my issue.

Thanks Mark!

What do you think about the amount of clicks it took to get it to idle correctly? Does that seem like too much pre-load on the springs or does it just vary like that from pump to pump?

No problem, glad to help. Some pumps take more clicks then others. As long as your truck starts without having to touch the go peddle or your peddle isn't too touchy, then it's set up correctly and your good to go.

Is it a big issue if you have to touch the pedal to start it?

Does that mean it's getting too much fuel?

I'm ignorant on 12v's LOL

Thanks, KO

It isn't a bad thing, just means the go peddle will be touchy when driving. Yes,it does fuel abit harder. I wouldn't go to tight, as it will make the idle hover or not come down when it should.

I have mine one click on each side tighter and it does this ever so slightly, but I like a tad better at WOT. The gouge is intial plus 2 clicks!

This is also why I'm leary of putting the 5K's in!
